The Brunello Riserva 2015 by Carpineto in the TOP short list of Grande Esordio wines of the Gold Guide i Vini di Veronelli 2022. 25 new wines that, at their first appearance, have reached or exceeded the threshold of excellence with an evaluation equal to or greater than 94 cents.

In the year in which everything stopped, the debut of the first Riserva of Brunello Carpineto went not only in the sign of rebirth and restart but of excellence.

Produced, like all Appodiati Carpineto , only in the best vintages, it has the same style of the 2015 Brunello which has attracted the attention of national and international wine critics at the highest levels while a 2016 hailed as the best ever.

Grapes harvested only from the highest vineyard of all, where the gaze abandons itself to the widest breath. To sign the Riserva del Brunello di Montalcino 2015 is once again Caterina Sacchet , wine producer at the helm of Carpineto with Antonio Mario Zaccheo .

"The 2015 vintage, not surprisingly with 5 stars, was a spectacular year at 360 degrees, characterized wines of great potential thanks to the high concentration of noble components.

In the 2015 Brunello we perceive the excellent polyphenolic structure that generates a wine of great longevity and territorial typicality, which is why we decided to debut with the Riserva precisely with this vintage. Maybe having these vintages every year, enthuses Caterina Sacchet .

The Appodiato di Montalcino di Carpineto , in a privileged position, 500 meters above sea level, in the locality of Rogarelli, is one of the highest settlements of the denomination and most panoramic with a view that sweeps from the historic center of Montalcino (from which it is 4 km) of which the entire perimeter of the walls is framed, in the Val d'Arbia, where the Via Francigena joins the ancient Cassia, and on clear days as far as Siena. Looking up then, beyond the first line of hills on the horizon to the east, you can even see the hills of the Chianti Classico above Siena.

The smallest of the 5 Carpineto estates is among the most evocative: a sort of wine boutique with ancient stone farmhouses surrounded by centuries-old oaks and all around 53 hectares of land, 10 of which are vineyards planted with Sangiovese grosso trained with spurred cordon (3 , 5 h of Brunello, 5 h of Rosso di Montalcino, the rest Sant'Antimo Rosso), at a density of 5700 plants per hectare, an olive grove and a dense forest of oaks, holm oaks and Mediterranean scrub.

From a geological point of view, the Appodiato di Montalcino is located on the undifferentiated complex of scaly clays, consisting mainly of schists, marly limestones and quartz sandstones.

The slight northern exposure, in a panoramic and breezy position, gives the wines of this estate a unique microclimate, warm during the day and temperate and cool at night, which gives the Brunello intense and complex aromas, a beautiful freshness, elegance, refinement and great longevity.

The elevated position of the vineyards, a great resource considering climate change, allows in fact a prolonged ripening, therefore a late harvest, as was done in the past, and the full ripening of the skins, ripe tannins but without losing acidity, the backbone of the wine.

BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO DOCG 2015 RISERVA - CARPINETO

The grapes of the Riserva come exclusively from the vineyard located higher up in the estate (500 meters above sea level), the grapes, harvested at the end of September, were hand-picked, selected and placed in special boxes in order to preserve the integrity of the grape during the short ride to the cellar.

The panoramic and breezy position gives the wines great elegance, minerality and longevity.

The excellent seasonal trend has made it possible to obtain grapes of excellent quality that characterize a great 5-star vintage. The perfect levels of ripeness in terms of color extractability and the high sugar content have generated a wine of great structure, ideal for long evolutions.

The vinification was carried out by indigenous yeasts in steel tanks at a controlled temperature (25-30 ° C); in order to preserve the typical bouquet of Sangiovese, frequent pumping over and a long maceration on the skins are performed.

The aging lasts for at least 42 months in 30 and 20 HL Slavonian barrels.

Bottling is carried out without treatments of any kind or filtration, vegan friendly.

The refinement in the bottle takes place in the cellar at a constant and controlled natural temperature and humidity.

The color is intense ruby red, with a strong anthocyanin concentration, with light reflections tending to garnet.

The aroma is intense and persistent, clear hints of wild berries with light nuances of vanilla, the light spicy note on the finish will find space with the evolution of this important wine

The taste is confirmed amplitude and intensity that go to describe a wine of great depth and a long evolutionary path.

The bottles produced are 6,000

THE CRITICISM

Great Debut of the Gold Guide I Vini di Veronelli 2022

96 Wine Spectator

A rich and harmonious ruby red, which presents intense flavors and complex aromas such as cherry, raspberry, iron, leather, undergrowth with a hint of cumin. It is elegant, succulent with a well integrated structure and endowed with great persistence. It reaches its peak from 2024 to 2046.

Energetic and vibrant, it offers mixed floral and fruity hints of hibiscus, broken myrtle leaves, red plums and currants. The secondary frame is filled with memories of crusty bread and sandalwood. Medium-full body, precise and essential, it shows slightly rigid tannins at the moment that create the main backbone and a light and sharp finish in the modern and vertical closure. Thrilling. Better from 2022.

Carpineto's Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2015 mixes a rich taste of plum sauce and brown spices with notes of wild herbs and white smoke. There is a component of flowery undergrowth that emerges over time and gives expressive completeness.

It is deeply material with a savory character, a taste of cherry and sage sauce that give way to chocolate and hints of tobacco. The finish is structured and maintains balance, a young but also clean and fresh tannin is perceived. There is still a slight roughness that however gives an even more incisive taste experience.

Attack on notes of ash, then black currant and cherry with a touch of orange blossom. Fantastic wine, very well chiseled on tones that, on the one hand, seem to leave room for softness, on the other, delimit it with the rigor of a present, fine, punctual tannic texture. Very fresh finish, on beautiful fruity notes
