Wine sales in large-scale retail trade (GDO) in the first 8 months of 2024 remained stable in volume, but prices increased by 2.2%.

Consumers are moving towards IGT wines (3.3%) to the detriment of DOC wines (-3.2%).

The 2024 harvest is expected to grow by 7%, but with a production of 41 million hectoliters, well below the five-year average. Climate change has had a negative impact.

In the United States, wine consumption is in sharp decline (-8% in the first 8 months), but Italian sparkling wines are holding up, saving the sector, especially thanks to Prosecco, which dominates the foreign market and leads exports with a 13% growth in volume. However, Italian wine exports are showing signs of slowing down in some key markets such as Germany and Switzerland.
