Regional Agriculture Councillor Dario Bond said this today while participating in the final focus of the 2025 Viticulture Triptych dedicated to the 2025 harvest report, organised by the Region and Veneto Agricoltura in collaboration with AVEPA .
Data shows an increase in vineyard area of approximately 1,000 hectares in 2025, bringing the total to 104,397.61 hectares. Seventy-five percent of the vineyards are planted with white grape varieties, while the remaining 25% is occupied by red grape varieties. In addition to this area, there is a potential viticulture of approximately 5,000 hectares, resulting from replanting and new planting authorizations, which constitutes a strategic lever for the future development of the sector . The main variety cultivated remains Glera, with approximately 41,000 hectares, confirming the centrality of the Prosecco system, while Corvina dominates among the red grape varieties, with 6,887 hectares.
"Veneto," Bond added, "continues to invest in a winemaking model based on quality, supply chain organization, and planning. The growth in acreage and available viticultural potential demonstrate the sector's vitality and the ability of businesses to look to the future with confidence."
The 2025 harvest recorded a total quantity of grapes harvested equal to 14,664,310.64 quintals, an increase of 6.8% compared to 2024. Specifically, 11,468,420.05 quintals (6.0%) of PDO grapes, 2,485,186.45 quintals (-0.3%) of PGI grapes and just over 700,000 quintals of varietal grapes were harvested. This data confirms Veneto's strong vocation for certified and higher value-added production .
On the price front, the average price of grapes from the 2025 harvest stands at €0.66/kg, a slight decrease of 0.5% compared to 2024, in a context of substantially stable market conditions.
Exports are a cornerstone of Veneto wine's success. Data for the third quarter of 2025 indicate outgoing transits of approximately €2.16 billion, with annual growth of 0.5%. Veneto thus confirms its position as Italy's leading wine exporter , accounting for approximately 38% of national exports totaling €5.74 billion.
Prosecco grew by 5% in volume, with a corresponding increase in value, with the United States continuing to be a key market. Data for still PDO wines from Veneto is also positive, with slight growth in volume in the first nine months of 2025, while value remains stable compared to 2024, representing 25% of the volume and 20% of the value of still PDO wines exported domestically.
"Tariffs and geopolitical tensions," Bond added, "are compounded by a structural shift in consumption that is forcing the sector to rethink its production and commercial strategies . Regarding US tariffs , the impact appears limited and partially spread across the entire supply chain: sparkling wines have historically held up better than other products, while wines like Amarone boast a targeted, high-spending clientele. Protection consortia are crucial in this context, as they must protect the product not only from counterfeiting and abuse, but also, and above all, its value and distribution along the supply chain. With regard to markets, an assessment of diversification and the strategies to adopt is also needed: in this regard, the Region is supporting producers with resources for promotion on third-country markets."
Veneto Agricoltura Director Federico Caner concluded: "We are addressing the issue of climate change in the wine sector as well, implementing, in the truest sense of the word, many innovative projects, including within the Veneto Agency's pilot and experimental farms. Veneto Agricoltura's commitment is significant, and I emphasize that we are available to anyone to develop any innovative idea in the field of viticulture and oenology, with the goal of better addressing climate change."
