SOSTAIN FOUNDATION:
Sicily is the first region in Italy for organic surface, i.e. 30% of the Italian surface, and the first region in Italy for sustainable viticulture, therefore subject to the organic specification or to that of integrated production (SQNPI), without chemical fertilizers and herbicides - with over 42 thousand hectares. There are already 31 wineries associated with the SOStain Sicilia Foundation (covering over 28,000 hectares of vineyards) who share the desire to experiment with good practices aimed at respecting the ecosystem, enhancing biodiversity and creating a virtuous production model. The Foundation is open to all Sicilian wineries, whether with a biological or biodynamic orientation, capable of complying with a disciplinary, based on 10 minimum requirements (from the prohibition of chemical weeding to the protection of biodiversity, from the use of local raw materials to the transparency of communication, up to the use of energy efficient technologies), so as to obtain the certification and the SOStain brand.
