On the one hand, the Assembly resolved to stop the planting of new vineyards capable of producing DOC Venezia Pinot Grigio and on the other, it was decided to store the Venezia Pinto Grigio DOC by immediately blocking part of the production.

The Assembly of Members of the Venice Wine Consortium on 19 June 2020 unanimously resolved two technical proposals of great importance aimed at concretely addressing the crisis in the wine and wine system of Treviso and Venice caused by the health emergency. On the one hand, the Assembly resolved to stop the planting of new vineyards capable of producing DOC Venezia Pinot grigi or, and on the other, the decision was taken to store the DOC Venezia Pinto Grigio by immediately blocking a portion of the production . "These measures - explains the Director of the Consortium Stefano Quaggio - arise from a careful analysis carried out on the progress of the denomination. The pandemic from Covid-19 had important repercussions on the entire wine supply chain of the Treviso and Venetian areas, to the point of making necessary to take measures to maintain the market balance, improve it or at least stabilize it. " A concerted choice, preceded by an important phase of listening not only to the trade associations and the various stakeholders but also to other territories. "The deliberate measures - continues Quaggio - are part of a moment of strong change for the wine sector which today needs more than ever to react in support of the local wine growers" . Until the date of July 31, 2021, the storage will bind all the productions (grapes, must and wines) suitable for claiming the DOC Venezia Pinot Grigio obtainable from the 2020 harvest, exceeding 130 quintals per hectare up to the maximum permitted production of 150 quintals per hectare. This choice should also be interpreted as the desire to work in synergy with other local names. The quantities of product subject to compulsory storage can be reclassified at any time by producers of white wine, white wine with typical geographical indication or Pinot Grigio suitable for the DOC "Prosecco" denomination, compatibly with the respective production specification and management measures of the offer implemented by the respective Protection Consortium. On the other hand, the products destined for Venice DOC Pinot Grigio which are subject to organic certification have been excluded from the provision. The temporary suspension to the registration of the areas planted with vines for the production of DOC Venezia Pinot Grigio wines has been extended from the 2020/2021 wine campaign to the 2021/2022 campaign. Following the positive feedback given by the Shareholders' Meeting, the proposals will now go to the table of the Veneto Region for the formalization scheduled for the end of July.
