Bologna is preparing to welcome the Umbria of wine, an increasingly emblem of a future oriented towards clean viticulture.

And Umbrian wine also returns again in 2024, after the first experience last year, to immerse itself in the Slow world: 23 wineries from the region were admitted to participate by the fair's tasting commission, within the regional space edited by Umbria Top Wines , the cooperative society that brings together the majority of regional wineries. This year the Umbrian presence is growing compared to the 2023 edition, when the collective was made up of 18 companies.

Organized by BolognaFiere with the technical direction of Slow Food, Slow Wine Fair brings together over 850 selected wineries and wine supply chain operators from 21 countries and all Italian regions. In Umbria, according to the Slow Wine guides, the momentum towards clean viticulture is now unstoppable, with an increase, year after year, in the number of companies working organically or sustainably.

Below are the wineries present in the Umbria area in Hall 20, stand C (4-26): Antonelli; Blasi Cellar; Baldassarri winery; Montegiove Castle; Cesarini Sartori; Chiorri; Colle Ciocco; Colle Uncinano; Daniele Rossi; Decugnano dei Barbi; Di Filippo; Fungoli; Goretti; Le Cimate; Leonardo Bussoletti; Lead screw; Agricola Mevante; Arche Plans; Devilslayer; Bellafonte Estate; Freddano Estate; Terre Margaritelli; Zanchi.

“We are pleased to participate in the Slow Wine Fair - states the president of Umbria Top Massimo Sepiacci - a trade fair and cultural event that promotes wines resulting from sustainable agriculture and makes biodiversity and landscape protection its watchwords. Umbria demonstrates that it is perfectly part of this virtuous system, which works day after day in favor of the social, cultural and economic growth of the agricultural fabric".

Among the meetings, workshops and tastings scheduled, Umbria wine will also have its own "Umbria Wine Academy" moment, with the Masterclass " Regional native vines and their variations in the various production areas ", Tuesday 27 February at 12pm, at Rooms 1/2 Bologna Fiere, hosted by Gabriele Rosso, deputy curator of Slow Wine: eight producers will briefly illustrate their selected production in line with the Slow Manifesto, with the aim of describing themselves as emblematic realities of an oriented future to clean viticulture, increasingly free of synthetic products. Tickets for the Masterclass are available on the Slow Fair website.

Presenting their wines will be: Castello di Montegiove, Colle Uncinano, Daniele Rossi, Cesarini Sartori, Goretti, Le Cimate, Mevante, Terre Margaritelli.

Umbria Top Wines

In 2009, for the first time, many of the region's best wineries came together to create Umbria Top, an organization dedicated to promoting the best wines of Umbria. The cooperative represents a diverse group of world-class winemakers, producing the highest quality wines in limited quantities. The winning producers of Umbria Top Wines received the highest votes from experts and prestigious organizations, including Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Gambero Rosso "Tre Bicchieri", Decanter World Wine Awards, International Wine Challenge, Oscar del Vino, Cinque Grappoli of the Duemilavini guide and the San Francisco Wine Competition.

Umbria Top's mission is to promote a unitary and qualified image of quality and certified Umbrian wine, where possible combining it with other local agri-food excellences, through partnerships and strategic agreements with other entities.
