For the twelfth edition of the world preview of the 2014 vintage, Assovini Sicilia aims to foreign countries with a focus on sustainability

The 2015 appointment with Sicilia en Primeur will be an edition looking even more to protect environment and export, the great international exhibition dedicated to the wines of Sicily, scheduled from 15th to 18th April in Taormina.

The event, organized by Assovini Sicilia, involves all regional vinegrowing and winemaking areas thanks to the participation of about forty companies. The protagonists of the twelfth edition will be sustainability and biodiversity, issues faced also by Expo 2015, where Assovini Sicilia will have a leading role, thanks to the participation of the Region.

Assovini Sicilia: a greener united Sicily

«Since its creation in 1998, our association, which has 72 members and now produces more than 80% of the bottled wine in the region, has set itself the objective to present to the world unitary and qualitative image of Sicilian oenology, also from the environmental point of view – the Chairman Francesco Ferreri states –. An event of international character like Sicilia en Primeur must put emphasis on current issues such as the development of an increasingly green wine growing and the preservation of biodiversity, a philosophy that accompanies us at every stage of production».

The partners have been working for years to make wine growing ever more respectful of the ecosystem and of those who live and work there. 61% of the member companies have environmental certification and 39% produces wines from organic grapes while almost all use techniques of fertilization with low impact. Moreover, 82% operates according to the rules of the guided and integrated pest management.

In addition to be an ethical duty to the local community and nature, concern for the environment is also an important card to play on the international markets, increasingly sensitive. Right abroad, in effect, it is offering great satisfaction to the members of Assovini Sicilia, now present in over 70 countries, with exports accounting for 59% of the total revenue generated of 250 million.
