The Calabrian winery obtains the Equalitas certification and makes public the start of the environmental, social and economic reporting process.

The first Sustainability Report of the Librandi winery will be presented on 19 June in Verona, on the occasion of the Opera Wine event, a winery that with its two and a half million bottles a year and an export that covers 40 countries throughout the world, has become an undisputed point of reference for the enology of our country. "We have chosen to objectively translate what is our inspiring philosophy by pursuing a path of social reporting that led us in 2021 to obtain the Equalitas certification and to publish our first Sustainability Report ." explains Paolo Librandi, co-owner of the winery.
Equalitas is a voluntary standard specifically designed for the wine sector that arises from the desire to provide a single certification, a homogeneous and shared vision for the entire sector, a guarantee for the consumer and stakeholders with respect to the correctness and verifiability of the requirements defined according to the three social, environmental and economic pillars.
Known for its constant commitment to the topic of research in the wine sector , covering over the years a leading role in the rediscovery of now forgotten or lost native vines, the Librandi company has made the issue of sustainability a topic of central importance.
"Sustainability - continues Paolo Librandi - understood as a social, economic and environmental commitment, is a key guideline of our company, which has always been attentive to the care of the territory and the safeguarding of biodiversity."
"The certification process - explains Raffaele Librandi - specifically concerned four" good practices ": processing, thus involving the stages of vinification, bottling and work on the packaging of our products; good social and economic practices, which have involving both the workers and the stakeholders with whom we interface on a daily basis; and finally communication in all its forms, including the drafting of the sustainability report. "
"Our Sustainability Report - continues Raffaele Librandi - is the result of a concerted and shared action between all the players that revolve around our world: employees and collaborators, customers and suppliers as well as the associations that have been working alongside us for years. It is a starting point, the start of a path in the awareness that the important commitments undertaken and the objectives we have set ourselves will be achievable only thanks to the commitment of all, moved by the common desire and responsibility of wanting to create a more sustainable to be handed over to future generations. "

LONG-TERM GOALS

  1. Energy efficiency of the cellar area, with the aim of reducing electricity consumption by 10% by modernizing the refrigeration systems of the winemaking area, in order to optimize the relationship between energy input and efficiency in terms of of production and consumption.

  2. Increase the protection of small suppliers through a sustainable pricing policy.

  3. Further reduce the use of conventional materials in packaging in favor of low environmental impact and environmentally friendly materials.

  4. Define, by 2022, a measurement of the Carbon Footprint (indicator relating to CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions) and of the Water Footprint (quantity of water used by the company), in order to compensate for emissions by defining initiatives sustainable.

GOOD ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICES

REDUCTION OF GLASS CONSUMPTION : Among the many parameters relating to the reduction of consumption, the company has undertaken to significantly limit the consumption of glass. Packaging is a parameter of primary importance, for this reason, during the recent restyling process, the choice of the new bottles was also dictated by environmental and not just aesthetic parameters. The new Bordeaux from Gravello, Megonio, Duca Sanfelice and Efeso has in fact a weight of 600 g, against the 750 g of the previous one. A non-negligible figure if we consider an annual consumption of about 200,000 bottles.

SUPPLIERS : More than half of the suppliers are currently certified with recognized standards (ISO 14001, SA 8000, ISO 45001, BRC, FSC). The company commitment is aimed at increasing this quota, making it a prerogative in the stipulation of new supplies and at the same time trying to encourage its adoption towards historical partners so far lacking.

PHOTOVOLTAIC : The cellar is equipped with an important photovoltaic system that provides about 25-30% of the energy needs of the machinery, with a saving of energy produced from traditional sources.

LABELS : According to the company philosophy, attention to the product must necessarily be mixed with attention to sustainability. For this reason, taking advantage of the complete renewal of the label fleet, the choice fell on papers from controlled supply chains (FSC).

GOOD SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC PRACTICES

TURNOVER: The company cultivates the training of its employees by establishing solid growth relationships. In recent years, outgoing turnover has been zero. Instead, there are new hires and internships. There are frequent training courses.

EMPLOYEES: Out of respect for its employees, the company slavishly applies the CCNL for the food industry, guaranteeing permanent contracts and company benefits. The average salary is in fact higher than the territorial average and the job position is characterized by a strong stability.

GOOD COMMUNICATION PRACTICES

SUSTAINABILITY REPORT : With the creation of the first sustainability report, Librandi intends to formalize and objectively translate what has always been the company philosophy. The financial statements are the starting point for defining a virtuous path, aimed at improving company practices and communicating future initiatives.

SUSTAINABILITY SECTION ON THE SITE : In addition to the sustainability report, the company has defined a document collection including an "ethical code" and a "sustainability policy". The information material can be viewed and downloaded from the "Sustainability" area of the librandi.it website.
