On June 4th, at the Rocca di Lonato, an evening dedicated to the region, wine, and the sustainable future of the Garda appellation.
Nestled between Lake Garda, the moraine hills, and the vineyards that extend across the provinces of Brescia, Mantua, and Verona, the Garda DOC today represents one of the most dynamic realities in the Italian wine scene. On Wednesday, June 4, the Rocca di Lonato will host "LOW – DOC Garda: information, sustainability, and quality of the Garda DOC," an evening promoted by the Garda DOC Consortium to showcase the value of a region that, over the years, has built an increasingly recognizable, contemporary, and sustainability-focused winemaking identity.
The evening will also be an opportunity to explore the path undertaken by the Garda DOC Consortium in terms of " Economic Sustainability and Productive Innovation" through the story of the " Sustainable Garda DOC Production Model ", developed in recent years as a concrete response to climate change and new market demands without losing the identity of the origin and the guarantee of certification typical of a DOC.
Lake Garda is a "piece of the Mediterranean" at the foot of the Alps, a region characterized by moraine hills with a typical semicircular shape, the result of numerous glaciations and sedimentary deposits left by Lake Garda when the basin was still a glacier. Here, thanks to a unique, constantly temperate climate, you can breathe in the Mediterranean air , surrounded by vegetation—rich in olive trees, capers, lemons, citrons, and agaves —that recalls its unique character.
Viticulture has played a leading role since ancient times, always acting with a view to connecting and safeguarding the entire surrounding landscape: this is how the numerous " iconemes" including the Rocca di Lonato have remained intact, becoming true distinctive elements of the Garda landscape to this day.
The iconic symbols that distinguish the Garda area tell us of a region that draws lessons from its prosperous past while simultaneously looking to the future. They demonstrate how vineyard management and landscape conservation are intertwined , and how the latter is strategic for developing cultivation models that combine viticultural tradition with technological innovation. It is in this terroir with such distinctive characteristics, shaped by time and aided by a friendly climate , that the Garda DOC wines are born, recognizable for their smoothness, freshness, and minerality.
A project that looks to the future without losing its ties to the territory and which, starting this year, will bring important innovations for the denomination, including the introduction of DOC Garda wines with a low natural alcohol content and the “ Crémant” designation for classic method sparkling wines .
" Today, talking about sustainability means talking about the territory, people, and production responsibility," comments Paolo Fiorini , President of the Garda DOC Consortium. " With this evening, we want to share the work that goes into every bottle and a vision of the denomination that focuses on quality, identity, and the ability to evolve."
The initiative is part of a territorial context that involves the Garda and Colli Mantovani LAG and the municipalities of the Garda area between the provinces of Brescia and Mantua, committed to enhancing the landscape, biodiversity and local production through sustainable and integrated development models.
The evening will kick off at 7:30 pm with a panoramic aperitif at the Rocca di Lonato. At 8 pm, official greetings for the Garda DOC Consortium will be given by Paolo Fiorini and Giovanna Prandini, followed by a technical presentation on the " Garda DOC production model." This will include a guided tasting, paired with local dishes, with presentations by Carlo Alberto Panont, a national expert on designations of origin, and Sissi Baratella, an oenologist and wine expert .
The event is free to attend, but registration is required by Wednesday, June 3rd, subject to availability.
