Created by Lega Serie A, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and ICE (Agency for the Promotion Abroad and Internationalization of Italian Businesses), the initiative has a worldwide dissemination and requires that each Serie A Club be associated with a supply chain that characterizes it. The inclusion of the organic sector, the spearhead of the entire Italian agri-food sector, which combines quality, sustainability, tradition and innovation, appreciated globally, consolidates the historic collaboration between FederBio and ICE.
The journey to discover Verona, between history, traditions and its excellences, is led by Darko Lazović , captain and leader of Hellas Verona. In parallel Roberto Zanoni , vice president of FederBio, tells from the organic fields the value of products grown without synthetic chemicals, a symbol of Italian excellence in the global panorama.
Italy is a true champion of organic. With 2.5 million hectares of cultivated surfaces without synthetic chemicals and a percentage of organic SAU that is almost 20%, about double the EU average, ours is among the most organic countries in Europe. Furthermore, Italy also holds the record for the number of organic producers, with over 84,191 operators out of the 495,000 active in the whole of Europe, and is also at the top of the ranking for the number of processors, almost 25,000, out of a total quota of 94,627.
Thanks to the extraordinary variety of climates, landscapes and agricultural species, our country presents a unique and high-quality agrobiodiversity. The virtuous synthesis of tradition and innovation, passion and recovery of ancient varieties of organic farmers, has allowed Italy to reach the world top in the production of cereals, citrus fruits, legumes, fruit and vegetables, wine and oil.
“Including organic among the 'Champions of Made in Italy' represents a fundamental recognition for a sector that embodies the values of sustainability, quality and respect for the environment - underlined Roberto Zanoni , Vice President of FederBio - The passion and commitment of so many farmers who have chosen to cultivate while protecting ecosystems has made Italy an international leader in this field. Organic embodies a centuries-old agricultural tradition that cares for the fertility of the land, protects biodiversity and helps mitigate climate impacts, supporting the local economy and creating employment opportunities, in particular, for young people and women. It responds to the growing demand for good and healthy food by citizens, helping to build a more sustainable future for the entire agri-food sector. Sales data confirm the success of organic: in 2024, the national market recorded over 6.5 billion euros, while exports reached 3.9 billion euros. We are practically the first country exporting organic, therefore truly champions of Made in Italy”.
