The historic Valdobbiadene winery reaches important milestones for environmental sustainability and declares a further objective of the 2030 agenda.

The environmental product certification EPD (Environment Product Declaration), dedicated to the Ius Naturae Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Organic, has recorded data beyond expectations: in the detailed snapshot, which took into account the data of the five-year period 2019-2023, a notable reduction in the use of CO2 equal to 8% is evident, which is equivalent to 2904 kgCO2eq saved in the production of the organic sparkling wine of the Bortolomiol collection.

The Stockholm body that presides over the International EPD System published the first Environmental Product Declaration in the wine sector in 2021; it was obtained by IUS Naturae, Prosecco Superiore DOCG Brut Millesimato produced from grapes from the rows of the Parco della Filandetta, the organic heart of the Bortolomiol family company.

A result that confirms the path we have taken ,” says Elvira Bortolomiol – CEO of the winery of the same name, “ environmental sustainability is a daily commitment for us, who work with the land and the environment, and it is precisely for this reason that we want to make the commitment to analyze and evaluate the environmental impact in every phase of our supply chain , thus undertaking a more careful use of raw materials .”

Among the indicators calculated and exposed in the EPD, particular attention is paid to the Carbon Footprint, that is, the quantity of greenhouse gases emitted directly and indirectly into the atmosphere during the production chain processes.

Bortolomiol, thanks to its collaboration with Indaco2 srl, a spin-off company of the University of Siena, specialized in monitoring production chains through sustainability indicators, pursues internal analysis to study and analyze the elements to work on with a view to also pursuing the objectives for sustainable development of the 2030 Agenda.

We are also conducting studies to reduce the use of glass in one of our most important collections, to arrive at the end of 2025 with an expected saving of 200 quintals of glass per year, equal to approximately 6.5% ”, continues Elvira “ a further small step that will lead us to certify the entire company in the near future”.

In addition to what was declared in the sustainability report regarding the pursuit of the objectives of the UN agenda: 15 - Life on Earth, 13 - Climate Action, 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production, 5 - Gender Equality and 1 - No Poverty , Bortolomiol is expanding its commitments by also pursuing objective 7 - Clean and accessible energy, effectively increasing the number of photovoltaic panels for the production of green energy at its headquarters.
