This innovative multipurpose center in the heart of Valpolicella has won the "Sustainable Practices in Wine Tourism" category of the prestigious Best of Wine Tourism competition, promoted by the Great Wine Capitals (GWC) and the Verona Chamber of Commerce. The award celebrates wineries that demonstrate an "exemplary commitment to developing accessible and responsible wine tourism activities and to their attention to environmental sustainability."
Monteleone21 is a further architectural complex that provides the current Masi winery with new spaces dedicated to wine tourism, management and production activities.
A modern and sustainable project, the new center represents the indissoluble bond between the soul of Masi and its territory. The architecture integrates harmoniously with the Valpolicella landscape, respecting and enhancing it. Its sinuous shape, in fact, recalls the small hills covered with vines and vegetation and the local stone cladding, the traditional dry stone walls locally called “marogne”. The large spaces are two-thirds underground, reducing the visual impact. The energy used comes largely from renewable sources: extensive use of photovoltaic and geothermal energy. Sustainable management of rainwater collected for irrigation of the greenery and vineyard.
Monteleone21 represents the quintessence of a project that combines the enjoyment of the natural landscape and modern architecture for sustainable tourism and offers visitors the opportunity to explore the surrounding area and the Masi world, guaranteeing a unique immersive experience.
Raffaele Boscaini, Marketing Director of Masi, proud of the recognition, states: "The magic word today is 'Sustainability': in its three declinations: environmental, economic and social. Those of us who have worked among the vines for over 250 years are naturally defenders of these fundamental values. Masi's Green Governance finds a concrete example in Monteleone21, where every aspect is designed for an environment that not only respects nature, but expresses and enhances it, without useless waste, guaranteeing the progress of our territory and those who live there".
In previous editions of the Best of Wine Tourism, the Masi Wine Experience received two important awards: in 2018 in the “Hospitality” category for the historic estates of the Conti Serego Alighieri in Valpolicella and in 2019 the global award for “Innovative Experiences in Wine Tourism” thanks to the Masi Wine Discovery Museum project at the Tenuta Canova in Lazise sul Garda.
