Proud, austere, and deeply rooted in the Piave region, Raboso is one of the grape varieties that best represents the history of Veneto viticulture. This very variety will be the protagonist of the Raboso Piave masterclass . The rebel among the native Veneto varieties , scheduled for Sunday, October 18th at 1:00 PM during the Rosso Autoctono event, an AIS Veneto event dedicated to Veneto red wines, held in the rooms of the Santa Caterina Museum in Treviso . The tasting will be led by Stefano Quaggio , Director of the Consorzio Vini Venezia , together with Alberto Toffanello, Best Sommelier of Veneto 2025 and Best Sommelier of Raboso 2023. The labels selected for the masterclass tell the story and evolution of the grape variety, from the most traditional expressions to contemporary interpretations, highlighting its unique characteristics and capacity for evolution. A journey through the glass that describes the many souls of one of the oldest Venetian varieties, a grape with a strong character, capable of defying time and expressing itself through wines of great personality and surprising longevity.
In addition to the masterclass, it will also be possible to access the Rosso Autoctono tasting table and taste wines from the Consorzio Vini Venezia wineries participating in the event: 47 Anno Domini, Ai Galli, Antonio Facchin, Barbaran Vini, Bonotto delle Tezze, Bosco del Merlo, Paladin, Ca' di Rajo, Castello di Roncade, De Stefani, Molon Luigino, Ornella Bellia, Rechsteiner, Sandre, San Giorgio, Villa Valonte, Villa Canthus, Conte Collalto, and Salatin.
Rosso Autoctono will also be the ideal time to talk about the current harvest : "The hot summer," Quaggio explains, "helped facilitate full ripening, positively impacting the progress of the varieties that will be harvested later. Among these is Raboso , a native grape that is a symbol of the area, whose harvest is scheduled for the coming weeks and will be one of the most anticipated events. For the other varieties protected by the Consortium , the harvest is nearing its conclusion with an overall positive outcome . Quantitatively, the year remains in line with recent years, while the weather conditions have favored good ripening of the grapes. This past year was an early one, with the Pinot Grigio harvest beginning as early as mid-August, but without any particular critical issues or significant rainfall that could interfere with the harvest or compromise the quality of the grapes."
The Rosso Autoctono tasting tables, open from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, are accessible either by purchasing tickets online in advance for 15 euros (12 euros for AIS members) or by purchasing directly at the event entrance for 18 euros. Masterclasses cost 10 euros each.
