Sales Outlook 2024-2025: The sector is struggling, but wine shops remain confident. Still white wines drive summer demand.

Evaluating sales trends compared to 2024 and 2025, expectations for the second half of the year, and customer consumption trends: these were the data collected as part of an internal survey conducted in June 2025 by Vinarius , the Association of Italian Wine Shops—which represents over 120 members throughout the country—on a representative sample of members.

" The results of our survey confirm that wine shops are going through a complex period of adjustment, amidst evolving consumer tastes and widespread economic difficulties ," says Andrea Terraneo , President of Vinarius. " Still white wines continue to be a solid choice for customers, while rosé wines appear to be experiencing a decline. Our commitment, now more than ever, is to support the sector by promoting culture, training, and synergies with producers ."

Sales: a first half of the year in stagnation or slowdown

A comparison of summer 2025 sales with the previous year shows a stable or declining situation: 41.7% of respondents reported a worsening trend, the same percentage for those who noted no changes, while only 16.7% indicated an improvement.

The same scenario was seen in the first half of 2025 budget: 50% saw a decline compared to 2024, 33.3% reported stability, and only another 16.7% recorded growth.

Expectations for autumn/winter: cautious confidence

Despite the current lackluster picture, expectations for the autumn/winter season are more encouraging: 33.3% of respondents expect sales to improve, 25% expect stability, and 41.7% remain pessimistic.

Summer 2025: Whites remain at the top of the list

When asked which type of wine will be most in demand in summer 2025, wine shops are undeniably clear: 50% cite still white wines as the season's stars. Sparkling wines follow at 25%, rosés at 16.7%, and reds at just 8.3%.

Rosati in difficulty compared to 2024

Particularly significant is the decline in rosé consumption compared to the previous summer: 58.3% of operators reported a decline, while only 25% reported an improvement. 16.7% reported stable consumption.
