The AIS – FRANCIACORTA 2013 AWARD has been appointed: Andrea Balleri is the best Sommelier in Italy 2013

A close and exciting challenge has decreed the winner of the Competition “Best Sommelier in Italy – Franciacorta Award 2013”, the important recognition that enhances the shared commitment between the Italian Sommelier Association and the Franciacorta Consortium in affirming the culture of quality in the whole world of wine and food.

Here are the three on the podium: Andrea Balleri, first place, followed by Emanuele Riva (second place) and by Daniele Arcangeli (third place). Many were the challenging tests taken by them: from the organoleptic description to the recognition of certain alcoholic drinks, from the combination of food and wine to the service of a bottle of Franciacorta, and still to the welcoming of customers and the taking of orders in a foreign language, to a special communication test.

“If today in our country people drink better and especially with greater sense of responsibility – Antonello Maietta, President of AIS, says – it is also thanks to the contribution of sommeliers who, in restaurants, wine bars, wineries, and lately also in hypermarkets, interpret in the best way the role of communicators of quality wine. We are really pleased – Maietta continues – of the excellent level of preparedness of the sommeliers in the competition, which shows that the teaching of high profile of the AIS school represents an authoritative learning opportunity for a successful practice of this profession”.

“For the culture of quality in the wine world, the sommelier is the first communication channel – Maurizio Zanella, president of the Franciacorta Consortium, concludes. For us it is a pleasure to be at the side of the AIS also this year for the final which sees as protagonists the best young players of today’ and tomorrow’ enology, who can be and should be, fly–wheels to the consumers of the history, the tradition of the territory and, of course, of the wine product that, in Italy, is one of the best business cards with which to show up in the world”.
