The Morgantìnon Regional Competition is dedicated to the Sicilian extra virgin olive oils, was held at the headquarters of the Regional Museum of Aidone (En). “Le Sciare” is the oil of the Vincenzo Romano & C. Sas Company of Bronte (Ct) that was proclaimed best Sicilian oil.



Morgantìnon d’Oro 2014 in the words of supporters


«The Morgantìnon regional competition of Sicilian extra virgin olive oils – Francesco Concetto Calanna, special commissioner of ESA, said – now in its fifth edition, has been enriched over time with content, always aiming at the enhancement of the entire sector. The additional news, this year, is the "Oil List". It is an educational tool available to Sicilian students of the food and wine sector, who are entering the world of work, with the aim to educate them on the right combinations of oil and food. Of course, the ultimate goal will be to achieve, through appropriate information campaigns and with the indispensable involvement of foodservice operators, the end consumer, so as to stimulate greater demand for quality oil for the growth of the entire sector».

«The competition – the commissioner of the former Province, Salvatore Caccamo, said – is a great opportunity that helps to enhance the unique heritage of Sicilian and of Enna olive oils. It is desirable that the PDO can side as soon as possible the PGI in Sicilian olive oils in order to promote the excellence of the oils produced in the inland areas not currently protected by the PDO».

«Educating to taste – Ezechia Reale, regional minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Mediterranean Fishing, added – teaching young people and operators of the food sector the value of extra virgin olive oil in its many nuances is a significant step towards the enhancement – even commercial – of a product until today not appreciated in the right measure. The Department for Agriculture, for years engaged in a campaign to raise awareness and to promote olive oil, has already initiated concrete actions to ensure the traceability of the product as warranty and protection of consumers also against any forms of counterfeiting».

The Morgantìnon Regional Competition of Sicilian extra virgin olive oils was carried out by ESA, the Agency for Agricultural Development, in collaboration with the Regional Province of Enna, the Chamber of Commerce of Enna, the City of Aidone, the Department for Ariculture, Rural Development of Mediterranean Fishing and the Regional Museum of Aidone. Last but not least, an important collaboration by the “Federico II” State Institution of Enna, Services for Gastronomy and Hotel Hospitality.
