It belongs to the great family of "tintourie" grapes , famous for the great color they give to the wines to which are added. It is a vine related to different varieties, from Alicante Bouschet to some American hybrids to Rossese Ligure. There is, however, much confusion between the different types. Typically we refer to Colorino of the white-fleshed Valdarno area, often cultived on alluvial soils and in warm areas. The clones that were used generally gave very rich and strong wines, but undrinkable in single-variety, useful because the grapes were very resistant to diseases. The color, very abundant, s all contained in the skin, where tannins give a structure to the wines: to be vinified in single-variety, there must be special conditions.
