Located in a charming built–up area of the old town, Hostaria alla Tavernetta offers the homely atmosphere of local get–togethers. Here Roberto Romano and his wife, Giuliana Petris, with the collaboration in the kitchen of chef Antonio Mereu and aided by their son Matteo, run with enthusiasm and professionalism, honed by years of experience, this beautiful place.



The restaurant, in addition to the ground floor lounge that can host fifty people, offers two fine rooms upstairs, suitable for private dinners or business lunches, but the real surprise is the delightful terrace that can accommodate, for a magical evening in the shadow of the cathedral, up to twenty people.



In the lounge room, the light filtering through the windows rests on objects that evoke the atmosphere of a bygone age. The beautiful wooden bar with mirrored shelves, fireplaces, arches and columns are of the old tavern. All made ​​more comfortable by the wood floor, the wine bottles in every corner with apparent randomness, the very fresh flowers that give a further touch of class to the venue.



On cold winter evenings, however, guests find a place in front of the cozy fireplace, delighting their palate with typical dishes from Friuli, linked to seasonal products. Moreover, the wine cellar offers a wide selection of regional, national wines and some international pearls for more demanding tastes. The bubbles are not lacking, such as a good Franciacorta for the happy hour, but the list of champagne, by choice, is restricted only to requests.

Every detail has been thought to create a welcoming environment, without giving up modern comforts and always in an atmosphere of friendly but discreet hospitality, where you are surrounded by the warmth and captivated by the magic and the fragrance of burning wood.



The warm fogolar welcomes you spreading its fragrance. The small rooms are full of household items and make you partakers of our history and our passions. In summer you can relax in the garden, eating surrounded by trees and flowers.

Trattoria Da Toni

Gradiscutta is a small, quiet and lonely village in the countryside of Friuli.

Here, Aldo Morassutti planted the lively flag of the Friulian gastronomy on the tavern that his father Toni and his mother Palmira came back in 1928 from Canada – where they had emigrated 15 years earlier " with the firm intention of returning to their village as soon as he had put aside money for a house.


When the time came, with the help of his wife Lidia, Aldo began to prepare with patience what was to become his gastronomic fortress remodeling the traditional recipes of the Friulian cuisine: vegetable soup, spit–roasted duck, venison, grilled meat and the legendary Polenta, the main dish of the peasant cuisine.


Over the years, the inn retained its old style, but the environment was enlarged: outside, towards the braida field, an emerald green meadow, with willows bending over a stream. At the center of one of the two lounges, the fogolar fireplace, where they cook on the grill, and where Albano and Monica welcome guests in the typical Friulian style, shy but also frank and generous. In summer you can eat on the porch overlooking the garden, in the presence of two pear trees and secular author sculptures by Giorgio Celiberti. Next to the restaurant you can find the well stocked winery with bottles of excellent producers and extraordinary vintages, Friulian and not, and a selection of local wines under the "Camarin" sign.


Sometimes, Morassutti, with its young chef Roberto Cozzarolo, moved away from the venue because his cuisine was claimed elsewhere, on the occasion of some important event (Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Canada, the USA, Argentina, China last). Or they celebrate special events such as Asparagus, an event held every two years for the development of the asparagus of Friuli, goose dinners, "renghe" and codfish dinners.


After discovering the flavors and aromas of the kitchen you can visit the Museum of Wine at the Vigneto Pittaro Winery in Codroipo, the Military Air Force Base where there are the famous Frecce Tricolori or the former Doge’s residence of Villa Manin, the park of Tagliamento in the majesty of its natural environment or the springs park in Codroipo.

Il Vitello d' Oro

On 27th January 1849, "Il Friuli" published a short article of the owner of Vitello D&rsuqo;Oro, with whom advised customers that with 1 Lira they could have a lunch consisting of "soup, alesso with vegetables, rosto, cheese with fruit, bread and wine...".

It is the first official document that testifies the existence of this restaurant. The current restaurant is part of a building from the early nineteenth century leaning, in part, against the second wall of the city, dating back to the thirteenth century. The restaurant is located just a few meters from the magnificent San Giacomo Square, the heart of the city. To reach the square you can see the fish market, built in the early twentieth century, in liberty style, creating the backdrop to the garden.

The elegant wooden furniture makes the interior rooms warm and welcoming. The venue can host 70 guests in the hall, divided into 3 zones, one of which houses the fogolar (fireplace), and 20 more in the private dining room. In summer it boasts the most beautiful garden of Udine for eating outdoors.

To welcome you, there will be patron Antonio Sabinot, together with his wife Gigliola and their son Gianluca, who deals also with a careful and attentive wine service.

Caffè Contarena

The restaurant of Contarena is located in the biggest room of the building and is characterized by impressive wall paintings and stucco decorations that stand out thanks to the light coming in through the large windows.

The creativity of the cuisine of Contarena is entrusted to the hands of the young chef Daniel Mezzolo. The proposals are many and the menu differs between lunch and dinner. Among the many proposals of the lunch, various salads that can be a unique course if enriched with meat and fish, and then an assortment of first and second dishes, for a quick and light meal before returning to work.

In the evening, the menu is enriched with various and more refined proposals, to be matched with a glass of wine chosen in the rich list that the winebar of Contarena offers.

The Fiorone pig

The king of the table is the Fiorone pig. A pack leader, born and raised in Friuli. Ii is fed with cereals of own production and buttermilk of the operating dairy shop at foothills. Being knocked down in the "flower" of its growth (when no more a piglet but not yet a pig), from its meat you do not derive the hams that would then age for 24–36 months, and for which it is mainly bred. Of course, the farmer is not very happy when we deprive him of the most prized piece of his barn, but it allows us to taste really unique meats to the delight of our taste.

This excellent restaurant has a propitiatory name: Dal Diaul, as if to ward off evil spirits that for over two thousand years have lived in the sagas of the Celts. It is located in an old village house in Lower Friuli, lost among the mountains and the sea and surrounded, in winter, by a light mist, which makes it even more fascinating and full of mystery. In effect, Dal Diaul, now that those spirits do not wander along the Friuli countryside, is nothing more than a tiny place, and here there is, it is appropriate to say, the magical kingdom of Luciano Odorico.

Trattoria Paradiso

Paradiso. May charm, coziness, sense of history, artistic interest be found in a small rural village, lost in the vast plain of Lower Friuli? At Paradiso you often meet people who come to this place from big cities in search of a less impersonal and less empty environment: from this village, all are immediately conquered, since the spontaneous architecture of the rural village becomes part of the landscape, evoking the most sincere expression of the culture and the development of a people. Paradiso is part of the municipality of Pocenia, easily accessible from the ss353 in the stretch that connects the town of Castions di Strada to Muzzana in the so–called "zone of springs". Historical documents prove the existence of a household named Paradiso or "Paravisi" since the Middle Ages, but only with the arrival of the noble Caratti family, in the seventeenth century, the village takes on a definite structure and a specific rural organization. At the origin of the unusual name there are probably the particular environmental characteristics of the area, being characterized by abundant running water that ensured a safe haven for flora and fauna of different kinds and at the same time kept away bad diseases, such as malaria and pellagra. The Caratti family also gave start to the pioneering business of land arrangement which saw them protagonists, together with the families of Savorgnan, Frangipane and Badoer, of the first reclamation works in Lower Friuli. The structure of the village was created and developed as a result of the need for construction and expansion of the property, depending on the agricultural use. Therefore, buildings were used for the storage of supplies, as homes of the settlers and barns for cattle ranching. Paradiso developes on two orthogonal axes: from a vertical line, the entire housing finds its structure, while the ortogonale structure divides the country into three parts, including the church and a collective space for residents, the manor house and the park. The rustic buildings, developed according to the classical scheme of rural houses of Lower Friuli, have habitation, fogolar, a separate barn, hayloft and courtyard. Peculiar is the structure of the church, intimate and cozy inside, built about at the end of the seventeenth century and known as "La Rotonda" because it stands on a circular base. Its initial appearance was partially modified in the nineteenth century, with the addition of the chancel and the replacement of the primitive rib vaulted bell cell with the current bell tower. A restructuring of the sacred building is ongoing, that will give back to Paradiso one of its jewels, returned to its original splendor. Prominent element in the structure of the village is villa Caratti, a manor house with a double body, made for subsequent additions and alterations, from 1691 to the late nineteenth century. Evident is the stylistic connotation of neoclassical style of the main facade. The outbuildings of the manor house include a botanic gardens, a formal garden and a greenhouse of exquisite aesthetics. Nine are the hectares of the ornamental green area, with flowerbeds with precise designs and rich in various plant species that reflect a fine aesthetic sense and give a high degree of preciousness of botany. Another building of interest is without any doubt Villa de’ Giudici, currently owned by the Veritti family, located on the road which leads to the establishment of mineral waters of the Corte Paradiso Fountain, a modern testimony of the environmental value of the area and the purity of the water in particular. Despite the general conditions of neglect, finally, the charm and beauty of the village can be actually appreciated entering the "Al Paradiso" tavern, an excellent example of a rural house renovation, carried out following scrupulous criteria of architectural recovery.
