In the early twentieth century, the restaurant was a tavern where the workers from the nearby shipyard ate their lunch.
Even today, next to the entrance of the restaurant, you can see the gates of the famous Sestri Ponente shipyard, where the famous translatantic Rex was built.
Over the years the venue, from tavern, turned into a typical and well known restaurant, the flagship of the Genoese cuisine, who took the name of Toe Drue, which in local dialect means "Thick Tables", thick big tables with rounded legs still present in the restaurant. In the early nineties, after a long experience in great hotels and on cruise ships, Alessandro Zane, still today the owner, took over the restaurant, and with the help of his wife Rita and his son Andrea, began this long adventure, made of flavors, kindness and passion.
Even today this beautiful fairy tale continues, aided by a skilled staff and a young and talented Chef (Roberto Cupido). An experience built over the years, which has led the restaurant Toe Drue to be one of the most well known venues in Liguria.
The philosophy to offer not too elaborate dishes, but rather reinterpreted with a bit of imagination. Great importance is given to the raw materials, to homemade bread, pasta and desserts.
Excellent fresh fish, raw seafood, the famous capponmagro, pesto, and, for lovers of meat, succulent braised meat, lamb ribs and roasted pork shank.
A traditional Ligurian cuisine with some influence from the Friuli region, homeland of the owner Alessandro Zane.
Antonio and Laura in 1997 turned the bar with kitchen in an elegant and refined restaurant. The passion for cooking, the research of raw materials and the creativity of its dishes make that Le Perlage is mentioned in the best Italian food guides. To make Le Perlage so special, also the strategic position facing the sea, a short walk from Fiera di Genova and from major events like the Boat Show, Euroflora and many others.
The cuisine of Le Perlage carefully selects the best quality of locally caught fish to propose its specialties: the large plate of raw fish with crustaceans (shrimps and prawns of Santa Margherita Ligure) and shellfish (oysters and truffles, sea urchins and razor clams).
Laura and her staff elaborate dishes with modern setting, with creative reinterpretation of the traditional Ligurian dishes, taking care of preparation and presentation.
«We started together in 1990 – Alessandro said – newly qualified at the Hotel Institute Nino Bergese. The idea to open a place of our own was a common dream that turned into reality here in Acquasanta. Prior to our arrival this was an old tavern proposing a typical of Genoa menu. We have not abandoned the traditional dishes, which, however, are flanked by several new recipes».
Osteria dell’Acquasanta has about 140 seats, one hundred inside the restaurant and forty in the garden immersed in the fresh and enveloping atmosphere of this resort in the hills of Genoa, a little gem hidden away from the hustle of the city. Where signs remind you to be careful when crossing because of frogs. And time seems to stand still.
Kitchen and Winery
From a kitchen that, season after season, enhances the wealth of the land and the sea, combinations derived from regional and international tradition are achieved through craft preparations and express cooking.
Boccadasse is an ancient village with a special charm: its old houses, its narrow streets have inspired many poets and songwriters, especially in Liguria.
You can not forget Fabrizio de André, who here composed many songs to tell his old Genoa. This is the reason why Mrs. Paola Oliveri and Mrs. Gianna Rastello wanted to call their restaurant, which opens its ten windows on the beach of the village, with the title of one of his famous song: "Creuza de Mä".
Creuza de Mä is a small venue with 42 seats, decorated with a nautical style but with refined taste. In the dining room Paola and Gianna greet customers as close friends in a very cozy and nice environment while in the kitchen the chef Antonio Amato works, who prepares dishes that can satisfy even the most demanding customers cooking even for those allergic to milk, wheat or polyphosphate.
Bread, pasta and desserts are especially delicious because they are daily homemade by the chef. Excellent wine list with a wide selection of national brands.
Once upon a time there was a fortress that protected the inhabitants from pirate raids... In 1900 that ancient fort became the club of the Maritime Captain and among tales of seafaring life and card games we arrive to our century. Today, Casa dei Capitani is a restaurant, among the few in Genoa where fish is the absolute protagonist. The beautiful pink house on two floors overlooking its dining rooms on the large terrace, ideal for enjoying outdoor, in a romantic and relaxing atmosphere, the specialties of the kitchen during the summer time. In the historic hall, full of memories, where surely Mazzini stayed when he was a guest in the nearby Villa of Andrea Galleano, the nineteenth century club of the Superba Swiss community had its Headquarters. At his table the violinist Renato De Barbieri sat, who was granted Paganini’s violin by the municipality.
The restaurant has pretty much the same age of the unified Italy and retains many original features of the period with the building made of stone of robust solidity, the rustic finish, the square rooms, the old tools kept as ornaments.
Ample parking close to the venue, a beautiful terrace in the shade of chestnut trees where to find some relief in the hot summers of Genoa. A wine list and a selection of spirits, very well equipped, are available.
A holiday lasting a year
Since 1862 the same family has led this place, among the most respected and renowned in Genoa. A historic place. They arrived to 2012 under the aegis of the Genoese cuisine, through a journey started by Giovanni Battista and Rosa Peirano, called "Bruxaboschi", up to the fifth generation of our family.
The Bigoncia, a wooden container used for the transport of grapes, is a classic and authentic farmer’s tool, a symbol of what wants to be the setting of our kitchen.
Chef Corrado Carpi, after twenty–five years of national and international culinary experience, since October 2003 in this restaurant proposes a cuisine based on tradition, with a few whimsical notes, but always keeping the authenticity of the dishes, with painstaking research regarding raw materials and following the seasonality of the products used.
The La Bigoncia restaurant, in the countryside of Genova Quarto, gives you the feeling of being in the countryside while being only 1 km from Corso Europa.
The restaurant has two rooms that hold about 40 people, cared for by the prompt and attentive service of the owner’s wife that will make you feel at ease, explaining with accuracy all the preparation of dishes: from focaccia to cakes and, why not, advising you a good wine by the Wine List, which has nearly 100 national labels.
Moreover, during summer we have a porch that houses other 15 people and a garden where children can play safely. Outside, for our customers, there is a private parking.
The "Baldin" venue dates back to the sixteenth century, presents itself as a successful "unon" of ancient and modern, high vaulted ceilings with capitals and floors on very hard and dark exotic wood, a series of clear Finnish birch panels on the walls. The restaurant is located in an ancient building (more or less of the seventeenth century) in the center of Sestri Ponente: restructuring has been the excellent work of the architect who is credited with having been able to combine his own ideas with the tastes and needs of those who would have to spend the day while preserving and respecting the original style of the building. A futuristic lighting system specifically designed to emphasize the dishes on the table in the best way. Tables and chairs are in curved light wood in traditional lines, in the traditional wall niches there are simple shelves and sophisticated décor of stainless steel offering the show of fine wines to accompany food.
The elegantly minimalist style goes well with the atmosphere, quiet and soft, but also warm, that you breathe in the room. Even the presence of the Chef, Luca Collami, is discrete and in his outings among the tables is never excessive or invasive of the privacy of customers.
Housed in an ancient fort against Saracens of the fifteenth century, where Garibaldi and Pope Pius VII stayed, this old tavern is one of the oldest venues in Italy.
Transformed into a stylish environment of seaside style by the owners Gianni and Renata Malagoli, the venue boasts a stunning sea view.
In 1860, the Patriots Nino Bixio and Francesco Crispi invoked the help of Garibaldi to liberate the people of Sicily from the Bourbon government. In this way, the famous Expedition of the Thousand was conceived, which enrolled volunteers from each condition and age, that left at dawn on May 6th, 1860 from a rock of Quarto in Genoa.
During the night Garibaldi stayed at the ancient Osteria del Bai in Quarto and here had a rest preparing for departure. On May 6th, 1860 Garibaldi and the Thousand sailed towards Marsala, where they arrived on 11th May. This historic undertaking ended with the Unit of Italy.
The venue expresses the good taste of a certain tradition of gastronomy, with dishes prepared directly by the chef Gianni Malagoli, that offers of the old regional recipes and dishes of international cuisine, as well as some new and inspired specialities.
The cuisine offered is creative, regional, innovative, based especially of fish. Interesting is the wine list of Italian and foreign wines and spirits.
