Wine Market

Uiv: Italian wine consumption and exports fall in Q1 2025

The signals from the US, German and UK markets are worrying. According to data from the UIV – Nielsen Observatory , the first quarter of 2025 shows a negative trend:

  • Global volume : -8%
  • Overall value : -5.5%
  • USA : -5.4% in volume
  • Germany : -11.8%
  • UK : -6.4%

Almost all the main denominations are in difficulty, except Prosecco: Pinot Grigio, Chianti, Lambrusco, Piedmontese reds and Sicilian whites.

Extra-EU exports: -9% in volumes, stable values

The Istat data analyzed by UIV confirm the trend decline. Despite a 4% in the USA, the month of March shows a slowdown also for the star-spangled market. Without the US contribution, the collapse on the extra-EU markets would exceed -17% .

International

Bordeaux lowers prices: “To sell, you need to cut”

Prices at 2013-2014 levels for the big Châteaux Even the big names in French wine choose the drastic cut:

  • Château Lafite Rothschild : -27.2%

  • Cheval Blanc : -29.5%
  • Mouton Rothschild : -25.2% The signal is clear: to start selling again, especially in the high range, prices must be reduced .
