The single-vineyard white, produced in 1,800 bottles, was awarded in Rome during the presentation of the Vini d'Italia 2027 guide. For the Umbrian winery, certified organic and part of an estate pioneering sustainability, it is the third top recognition in three consecutive editions.

Fonte del Bosco 2024 , a single-vineyard Trebbiano Spoletino IGT Umbria Bianco, is among Gambero Rosso's 50 Rare Wines of Italy , the only Umbrian wine in the selection. It is produced by Cantina Monte Vibiano , which cultivates 22 hectares of vineyards on the Fasola Bologna family estate in Marsciano, in the Perugian Hills. The selection, presented on Sunday, October 25th in Rome with the Vini d'Italia 2027 guide, brings together limited-production wines recognized by the curators as having a quality equal to that of the Tre Bicchieri and a distinctive character linked to their origin, method, or history.

The recognition follows the Tre Bicchieri awarded to Fiommarino 2022, a pure Sangiovese, in the 2025 guide, and to Campo delle Api 2024, a single-vineyard Grechetto, in the 2026 guide. Gambero Rosso had already awarded Monte Vibiano the Sustainable Viticulture Award in the 2013 edition, in addition to Tre Bicchieri to L'Andrea 2008, Colli Perugini Rosso. A constant journey, today increasingly focused on the identity of the territory and traditional Umbrian grape varieties, which has its roots in the early 20th century, when the owners' great-grandfather took his wine as far as Paris.

Fonte del Bosco today reveals a lesser-known side of central Umbria, a region that since the 1990s has established itself primarily with structured and powerful red wines. On the crests of the Colli Perugini, a historically white-growing area, the limestone-rich soils yield elegant wines with moderate alcohol content and sustained acidity. This character is expressed in this wine with an Umbrian grape variety not native to these hills: Trebbiano Spoletino , aromatic, complex, and endowed with an acidity that supports its evolution over time.

The vineyard is surrounded by woods , home to the ancient water source from which the cru and wine take their name. The vines are around thirty years old : Monte Vibiano planted Trebbiano Spoletino well before the grape, relaunched in the 2000s, began to spread beyond the Spoleto and Montefalco area. The surrounding vegetation maintains a balanced microclimate, an advantage that is increasingly evident in hot summers, while underground spring waters promote the health of the vines. The clay-limestone soils with a good presence of skeleton are located between 280 and 350 meters above sea level .

For years, the grapes from this vineyard were blended with other varieties; starting with the 2021 harvest, they are vinified separately , and Fonte del Bosco has become part of the Le Vigne line, dedicated to the estate's crus. Manually harvested into crates and gently pressed, the wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel, resting on the fine lees, and then ages in bottle for at least a year before release. The result is a white wine with intense and elegant aromas, with notes of citrus, ripe fruit, and mineral accents, and a bold and dynamic palate that combines pulp, juice, and depth. A wine designed for long aging .

The forest surrounding the vineyard reflects the entire estate's choices: of the 350 hectares, less than 40% is cultivated , and the rest is left to nature, protecting biodiversity. Over half a century ago, more than 10,000 trees were planted to protect the vineyards and olive groves; in 1998, the 360 Green Revolution project was launched to eliminate fossil fuel emissions. In 2009, Castello Monte Vibiano, the family-owned company known for its extra virgin olive oil, became the first farm in the world to receive UNI ISO 14064 certification for zero-carbon production. Since the 2023 harvest , the grapes and wines have been certified organic . Many families from the village work on the farm, and the cellar is managed by a local team, with the assistance of winemaker Valentino Ciarla.
