News on Italian wine and oenology

The news has been reorganized into thematic categories, for clear and functional reading:

Italian Wineries

Maso Martis, a family-run Metodo Classico . A new vintage for the DosaggioZero Riserva. The historic Trentino winery offers a highly elegant pas dosé: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir aged 36 months on the lees for a vertical, complex, and fresh wine.

Cantina Surrau: wine that breathes the scent of Gallura . From real estate developers to passionate winemakers, the Demuro family has transformed an idea into a reality, producing 550,000 bottles, focusing on artisanal quality, innovation, and respect for the Sardinian terroir.

Cantine Argiolas, the culture of wine becomes hospitality. From grandfather's house to a charming residence: the Argiolas family transforms its roots into a new model of hospitality, where wine and memory meet.

ViNos: the collective wine of the winemakers of Northwest Sardinia. A choral initiative among thirteen wineries in the Sassari area to create a unique wine that speaks of the territory and the power of cooperation.

Morando (Montalbera): "US tariffs affect popular wines, not luxury." According to General Manager Franco Morando, the impact of the tariffs will be greatest for wines in the range between 3 and 6 euros ex-cellar. The premium segments, however, will be more protected.

Italian Wine and National Enology

US tariffs: a €317 million blow to Italian wine . Frescobaldi (UIV): "80% of the sector penalized." The 15% tariff raises concerns about cumulative losses for Italian exports. The situation is worsened by the weak dollar. Urgent intervention is required from the Italian government and the EU.

Coldiretti: "Drinking won't be enough to forget." Alarm over new tariffs: the tariff increase on European wine could exceed 2.5%. Agri-food exports to the US slowed sharply after the tariffs were imposed.

Drink Pink – 8 rosés to convince even the skeptics. Gambero Rosso celebrates summer with a selection of eight Italian rosés from north to south: distinctive, territorial, with a well-defined style. Rosé isn't a trend, but a winemaking language.

Interview with Alfonso Pascale: "Industry has won, agriculture stands alone." The historian reflects on the cultural role of agriculture and the need for a new pact between land, community, and young people. A cry for a return to the centrality of rurality.

Growing trust in Italian food and beverage. According to the Edelman Trust Barometer 2025, trust in the F&B sector has risen from 69 to 71 points. In Italy, companies in the sector are perceived as more trustworthy than political institutions.

International

European wine exports decline: -2% in the first four months of 2025. European Commission data show a slowdown after the boom in 2024. Wine exports are worth €5.2 billion but are down €88 million compared to last year. Spirits and liqueurs, however, are growing.

Champagne in crisis: too much inventory in the cellar . Even the rich are crying. Champagne winemakers are dealing with declining sales, high inventory, and a changing market. The crisis also affects Bordeaux and Burgundy.

A dark two-year period for fine wines. The value of high-end bottles, from Tuscany to Burgundy, has plummeted compared to 2022. The market is changing: fewer collectors and more consumers seeking immediate pleasure.

Wine Events

"Città del Vino" International Wine Competition: Successful results for the Piedmontese wineries awarded at the 23rd edition held in Siena. Thirteen international juries evaluated the wines in an event that combines culture and global expertise.

Terre Sicane Wine Fest: Sicily celebrates wine and culture. From July 25th to 27th, tastings, cooking shows, and performances will take place in Contessa Entellina. Focus will be on wine tourism and sustainable economic development, a focus on Soave wines, and the promotion of small local businesses.

Solidarity Harvest at Manzane: A Day for Africa . The wine tourism initiative combining grape harvest and charity returns on September 7th. Proceeds will go toward building a school in Ghana, sponsored by the "In My Father's House" mission.

MonferVINUM – Enotrekking in Monferrato. On September 28th, a rendezvous with nature, history, and wine. A 5km trail through vineyards, art, and culture to discover the Tenuta Vallone estate.

Montefiascone: Two weeks of Wine Fair. Music, tastings, and guided tours, but also controversy: investigations are underway into alleged irregularities in European funding for events organized by the Puglia Wine Tourism Movement.

Extra – Culture & Wine
