The Italian wine market is slowing. Overproduction alarm. According to the Italian Wine Union, sales will decline in all major markets between January and May 2025. Cellars are full, and prices risk collapsing.

Piedmont rejects distillation, Bongioanni: "It's unnecessary." The regional councilor accuses some consortia of mismanagement and rejects the request for emergency distillation: "The crisis affects only a few people."

The crisis is widening: Tuscany is also considering distillation and yield reductions. With 46.6 million hectoliters in the cellar, pressure is growing for measures such as green harvesting and special distillation. The Region is ready to discuss them.
