News on Italian wine and oenology

Italian wineries

  • Terre d'Oltrepò in crisis : 8,000 jobs at risk, Uila-Uil Pavia calls for a special commissioner (not a liquidator).
  • Ramuscello Winery (PN) : Harvest forecast with normal quantities and grapes in good phytosanitary condition, despite extreme weather events.
  • Cantine Ferrari (TN) : Harvest begins with AI and cameras for grape monitoring; conditions are excellent.
  • Val Tidone (PC) : early harvest with “super healthy” grapes and excellent quality wines, despite a 15-20% drop in quantity.
  • Tenuta Altiero (FI) : US duties already felt in the wineries: collapse in visits and purchases by Americans (-50%).
  • Cantina Todini (PG) : protagonist at the Todi Festival with cultural and musical events among barriques and glasses of wine.

Italian wine and oenology

  • Harvest and seasonal work : over 5,000 seasonal workers are involved between Treviso and Valdobbiadene. Coldiretti has activated a medical center to regulate visits.
  • Italian rosés at a crossroads : between Provençal rose and cherry cherry, 10 recommended labels that convey the identity of two stylistic schools.
  • Harvest, reflections : an editorial on the risk of trivializing a moment of sacrifice and tradition, turning it into a social spectacle.
  • Story of Erbaluce di Caluso (TO) : defined as “the bastion of happiness” by winemaker Gianpiero Gerbi, between passito and history of identity.

International scenario

  • EU exports : surplus reduced to €7 billion, 10.3% drop to the US and China. Italy worsened the European average (10.7% company bankruptcies).
  • Italian wine exports (Istat) : slight decline in value (-0.8%, €3.2 billion) and volume (-3.8%). The US is growing (5.7%), while Russia is collapsing.
  • France : 62% of winemakers expect a decline in profits in 2025, also due to US tariffs (which have risen from 10% to 15%).
  • Fine wines, Liv-ex : July down, except for the Italy 100 index. Trading increases, but total value drops (-2.4%).
  • Prima Pavé : the world's most awarded Italian non-alcoholic wine signs a partnership with Gruppo Italiano Vini, focusing on national distribution.

Wine events

  • DoloViniMiti (Val di Cembra, TN, October 9-12) : 4 days dedicated to heroic viticulture, including masterclasses, trekking, and tastings.
  • Cortina Summer Party (August 21) : high-altitude picnic with great chefs and fine wines in the woods of Larieto.
  • Cellars in the Square (Montepulciano, August 22) : tastings in Piazza Grande with the Consorzio del Nobile and the “A Tavola con il Nobile” award.
  • Wine Nights (Canosa Sannita, August 21) : A discussion between experts and institutions on the sector's new challenges.
  • Venice International Wine Trophy (Lonigo, September 17) : the list of competing wines is growing, with tastings led by GRASPO.
  • Morbegno in Cantina (SO, starting September 27) : three autumn weekends dedicated to Valtellina excellence, including tastings, music, and secret places.
  • Evolio Expo (Bari, January 29-31, 2026) : focus on the value of Geographical Indications in the olive oil sector.

Current events and issues

  • Popillia japonica : infestation in Vercelli vineyards, producers are asking the Region for intervention and compensation.

Today's event confirms the turmoil in Italian wine, amid early harvests, international crises, innovation, and new market challenges.
