CANTINE D'ITALIA 2024 for those who believe that wine is worth a trip. The new edition of the Go Wine Wine Tourist Guide . An invitation to walk the Italy of wine.

The new 2024 edition of Cantine d'Italia, the Guide for Wine Tourists edited by Go Wine, has been released.

The presentation and awards event was held on Thursday 30 November in Milan at the Hotel Melià, in the presence of a large audience of journalists, representatives of the wineries selected in the volume, and wine enthusiasts.

Cantine d'Italia 2024 presents itself with 852 selected wineries , 262 "Imprints of excellence" for wine tourism, over 4,640 recommended wines , around 1,600 useful addresses for eating and sleeping.

It is a Guide to Cellars, with its own specific identity, which has the cellar as its reference.

Also as a symbolic place, today an increasingly popular destination for many wine enthusiasts and also as a physical place where wine men and women work and plan their work, where they are bearers of family stories and traditions, or of more recent investments.

A guide designed for wine tourists and invites you to walk through the Italy of wine, which is a beautiful vision of Italy made up of many places, roots and traditions, but also an expression of the ability of many winemakers who travel all over the world their bottles and promote the attention and pleasure of going to know the places where those bottles are born.

The winery, over the years, has in fact become a full-fledged place for promoting the territory, because with its reality it communicates a territorial identity made up of everything that revolves around it: the landscape, the vineyards, the tradition of the place, the villages.

Therefore it is not a traditional guide to wines, such as reviews and scores of individual labels, but a volume that develops the theme of narration alongside the selection of wines and allows you to deepen your knowledge with lots of data and news.

By telling the story of the winery, the events surrounding the wine are told and help us better understand the profile of each reality and obviously the wines that each winery expresses.

A Guide which therefore does not aim only at " super enthusiasts ", but which intends to be an opportunity to generate culture in favor of wine and its territories. And to make people reflect on the important role that Italian viticulture is playing in favor of the beauty and valorization of many territories.

A guide published by Go Wine and which maintains its mission unchanged: to promote great Italian hospitality in the cellar and to communicate the identity of the association through a volume.

«There is an underlying objective that animates this Guide – declares Massimo Corrado, president of Go Wine and editorial director – to tell, through the Italy of wine, a beautiful idea of Italy, one of the most beautiful faces of our country. Vineyards and wine take us to every region, to many sites and corners of the country. The cellar is the destination, the lively place where stories of wines and people intertwine, where wine is the key to listening to the story of a place, of a land, breathing in its atmosphere."

Now some news regarding contents in the volume:

The “Windows on wine” of the 2024 edition are signed by Alessandro Regoli (creator and editor of winenews.it), Alessandra Dal Monte (signed by Cook and Corriere della Sera) and Richard Baudains (signed by Decanter).

The interviews that open the Guide and reinforce the theme of the story that characterizes the profile of the volume concern nine men and women of wine from as many Italian regions.

They were: Nicolas Bovard , Cave Mont Blanc (Valle d'Aosta), Enzo Boglietti, from the winery of the same name (Piedmont), Lucia Letrari, Letrari (Trentino), Giovanna Madonia, from the winery of the same name (Emilia Romagna), Victoria Matta , Castello Vicchiomaggio (Tuscany), Antonio Di Carlo , Cantina Le Macchie (Lazio), Marina Cvetic , Masciarelli (Abruzzo), Massimo Setaro , Casa Setaro (Campania), Mauro Contini , Contini (Sardinia).

The visit to the cellar, the cost

It is the most important innovation of this edition and also marks a necessary adjustment in terms of communication. From a factor once based on spontaneity, from an element of novelty in the life of the winemaker, the visit to the cellar has increasingly established itself as an important theme dear to many wine enthusiasts and strategic for many wineries.

The theme of price was thus inserted as a factor to be known and in any case to be monitored.

Cantine d'Italia 2024 thus asked over 700 wineries to indicate in the questionnaire the cost of a basic experience in the cellar and the cost of a more complete experience.

Leaving full freedom in responding, also assuming free entry for a basic experience and in any case paying attention to analyzing the data and behavior of the wineries.

An important and in some respects unique screening is born which also renews the contents of the volume and opens a new front of analysis and information.

The topic will be explored in depth with a separate press release.

There are a total of 262 "Go Wine Footprints" in the 2024 edition : they represent a sign of "excellence" in the field of national wine tourism and constitute a sort of ideal sign that Go Wine attributes to the wineries that have achieved a high score in the evaluation overall on site, reception and production profile .

These are the three factors on which the presentation of the individual wineries is made up and on which their evaluation is defined.

Site : the place where the cellar is located, also looking at the cellar itself from an architectural point of view; but also site to be understood as the overall heritage of vineyards available to the winery.

Hospitality : the vocation of the winery to "open up" to the public with a parallel activity, both in the hospitality sector: farmhouse, B&B or restaurant, and by carrying out cultural initiatives that are aimed at the outside world.

Wine : the production profile of the company evaluated over time, beyond the outcome of a single harvest; taking into account the character of the production, the excellence of some labels, the particular attention paid to specific types of wines.

In the special ranking by region which is updated every year, Tuscany is confirmed at the top with 54 footprints, followed by Piedmont (49) and Veneto (34).

There are 21 wineries that reach the top of the “ Tre Impronte Go Wine ”:

the new Three imprints are those of Castello di Gabiano (Piedmont), Mamete Prevostini (from the winery of the same name for the San Lorenzo Convent) (Lombardy), Marchesi Mazzei Castello di Fonterutoli (Tuscany), Mastroberardino (Campania), Roberto Ceraudo (Calabria).

They add to: Badia a Coltibuono (Tuscany); Bellavista (Lombardy); Ca' del Bosco (Lombardy); Capezzana (Tuscany); Vicchiomaggio Castle (Tuscany); Ceretto ( Piedmont); Donnafugata (Sicily); Feuds of San Gregorio (Campania); Ferrari (Trentino); Florio (Sicily); Fontanafredda (Piedmont); Lungarotti (Umbria); Malvirà (Piedmont); Masciarelli (Abruzzo); Planeta (Sicily); San Felice (Tuscany).

Finally, the Guide awards 9 "Special Awards" : they intend to highlight some themes of the Guide and award recognition to wineries that have achieved particular levels of excellence in certain areas.
