SATURDAY 23 OCTOBER 2021 LIVE STREAMING EVENT FROM THE PIEVE DI SAN GIORGIO DI VALPOLICELLA

The winners of the 40th Masi Prize for the year 2021 have been announced . I am the physicist Roberto Battiston , the environmental researcher Jane da Mosto and the musician entrepreneur Paolo Fazioli for the Masi Civiltà Veneta Award .

The Masi International Civiltà del Vino Award goes to the professor and popularizer Attilio Scienza , and to the Senator for life and internationally renowned biologist, Elena Cattaneo , the Venetian Grosso d'Oro .

Ability to look beyond the present, imagining new solutions to contemporary problems, and audacity in embarking on a path not yet traveled are the characteristics that the winners of this edition have in common. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Award, marked by the contingency of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Masi Foundation wanted to offer a message of renewal and hope, identifying a shortlist of winners in the name of " Vision and Courage ". A choice that relaunches the very purpose of the Prize since the first edition of 1981: that of recognizing the talents linked to the historical area of the Venezie, in the various fields of human activity, to indicate them as precious points of reference in civil, cultural and economy of our territory and our country. In this sense, the choice of returning, for the award ceremony, to the location that saw it born, the suggestive Lombard-Romanesque parish church of San Giorgio in Valpolicella, is also significant .

"Is it an exaggeration to argue that vision and courage have in a certain sense always been the prerogative of women? Who knows. And yet, aren't women really dreaming more than men? And isn't vision the fruit of dreams? knowing that it is a thing for men, but it was also known that behind every great man there is a great woman: not to hide, fearful, behind his shadow but to support him, to give him courage. 'year there are two women like this and it will be interesting to hear the story of their dreams and their recklessness "with these reflections the president of the Masi Foundation, the writer Isabella Bossi Fedrigotti , introduces the five winners of this year, completed with three personalities prestigious men in the fields of science, entrepreneurship and the world of research in viticulture and enology.

The vice-president of the Masi Foundation and president of Masi, Sandro Boscaini , adds: "The forty years of the Prize, which are divided between the end of the twentieth century and the beginning of the third millennium, give us a roll of honor that for this coincidence becomes a natural reference for understanding the past and a useful direction for thinking about the future. With consistency, the Masi Foundation has always anchored the choice of personalities to whom to attribute recognition, to the civil and moral values that over time have come to constitute the most original patrimony of the Venetian culture and tradition. In four decades, exemplary talents and people have become interpreters who, regardless of fame, best represent, each in their own way, that vision and

that courage that we need in facing these challenging times that want to be of rebirth and reconstruction ".
