The Mottura estate covers 130 hectares in an area rich in natural resources, among the clay cracks of Civitella d’Agliano and the Tiber valley.

This area, free from urban and industrial settlements, still offers wild landscapes, dotted with forests, lakes and streams, in a scenario of unspoiled nature, despite the proximity of big cities such as Rome and Florence.

The estate has been belonging since 1933 to the Mottura family, who wanted to preserve its rich natural heritage. In the early sixties, the modernization of the company began, from sharecropping it passed to direct management, and the family began to search for the optimal use of the land where the vine had its own habitat.

The wine vocation of these hills had been known since 1292, when on the Land Registry records of Orvieto this was defined among the best areas for the production of the wine of the same name.

The vineyards, old of many generations, were set up with the Etruscan system with vines "married" to tall trees that supported them.

In the renewal of the company the old systems were gradually replaced by specialized vineyards, using structures and modern standards, while respecting the environment, to cover the current 36 hectares of vineyards, every year new plants ensure the continuity of the level of quality achieved.
