The history and consequently the approach with wine of the Pittaro family began in 1510.

The following generations have continued to pursue the passion and the goal of producing a wine of high quality.

Angelo Pittaro is the founder of Cantina San Martino. Romano, his father, was among the first ones to introduce in Italy the major grape varieties from across the Alps with clones of Merlot, Cabernet and Chardonnay, tracing the line that starts from the cultivation of the raw material, to achieve, then, production and sale.

The heart of all this is today a building called Il Castello which, in the center of the company, where not only the Pitars wine is presented, but that has become a place of socialization hosting events, exhibitions and thematic meetings on wine. The architecture is very classy, with large rooms that can be used for many purposes regarding the promotion and the culture of wine.

It was built with all the criteria of green building using natural, recyclable and environmentally sustainable materials. Saving energy is at the basis of this philosophy that reflects a remarkable respect of nature.

The vineyards are located in the surroundings of San Martino al Tagliamento, where the arid, rocky soil, creates an optimal condition for the wine that made famous its Grave del Friuli designation. The main goal is that of making enhance the personality of the various varieties.

There are 140 hectares of vineyard with 16 vines that are vinified in single–variety that can produce along with other wines Pinot Grigio 100% P.G., which enhances the personality of the grape variety.

Much attention is devoted to local wines from Friuli which have a now well established story.

Alongside the company there is the winery that has the same criterion of environmental sustainability by using eco–friendly materials and structures that are able to maintain the natural properties of the wine since its creation. The place is technologically advanced with a capacity of more than twenty thousand hectoliters.

The selection of wines produced are Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Cabernet, Merlot and Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso. We can add sparkling wines with Pinot Brut and Extra Dry Prosecco. We must not forget Prosecco Frizzante, Ramandolo, Friulano, Pinot Bianco, Verduzzo, Gewürztraminer and Cabernet Franc.

Another feature of Pitars is that to have a modern profile while maintaining the traditions, in addition to carefully search for its wines in a precise matching with food.

During the 2012 edition of Vinitaly the new labels of sparkling wines Pitars signed by Boscolo Design Parners were presented, which have an established experience on the implementation of the Labelling and Packaging of wine.
