La Crotta di Vegnaron cooperative was founded in 1980 with the aim to enhance the wine–growing areas of Chambave and Nus. The productions known and appreciated since the Middle Ages were about to disappear, winemaking tradition was about to diappear, and could survive only by joining forces in a cooperative of individual micro wine companies.

The need was not just to keep the tradition of winemaking, but also to enhance the production of brandy. Thanks to the legislation in force in the Aosta Valley, winemakers could distill their own pomace and produce brandy for their family consumption, and consequently almost all "Viticulteurs–Encaveurs" possessed an alembic through which they closed the production chain.
