Castello Monaci, an estate whose features blend with the lines of the place in which it stands: Salento. A land between two seas, of peculiar geometries and countless figures representing nature.
The vineyards of Castello Monaci, 150 hectares, surround the castle and the winery. We prefer the native varieties such as Primitivo, Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera. The innovation and technology in the wine cellar are very sophisticated and cutting edge. And then the barrel cellar, carved out of the solid rock, is a natural thermal insulation, with a backdrop of over a thousand French oak barrels. Shadows and outlines are drawn by the light.
It is 1665. Among the fertile vineyards of the time, Duke Oronzo Arcangelo Maria Francesco Count of Lemos (nephew of Ferrante and Francisco, both Spanish viceroys in Italy), founds the winery.
The winery begins the bottling of its products with Piero and Lisetta Leone Castris in 1925.
In 1943 the Five Roses is created, the most famous product of the company and the first rosé wine to be bottled and sold in Italy and immediately exported to the United States.
The story of this family and of the winery continues. The Knight of Labour Salvatore Leone de Castris, son of Piero and Lisetta, continues towards a significant improvement also at the international level of the company. For several years his son, Mr. Piernicola, has been directing it. More and more prestigious recognitions are constantly attributed to the full range of the company.
The winery offers a varied range of products: red, white, rosé interesting DOC wines, Salento and Puglia IGT wines, sparkling rosé and white wines; a brandy and a particularly fine oil.
Mater Domini Estates was founded in 2003 by the synthesis of an entrepreneurial project by Pierandrea Serneraro, oriented to the enhancement of the agricultural and food resources of Salento, in particular wine and oil.
The concept of quality of the company is based on modern methods of agricultural production, with extreme attention to innovation, being aware of its roots.
Quality is not a subjective parameter, but a philosophy of striving for perfection, trying not to miss any detail and working with nature in the production of a single product.
The Salento peninsula, characterized by the influence of the two seas, is an excellent field of application and testing of the concept of terroir, ranging from climate and soil characteristics to those of the grape varieties, and also includes the peculiarities linked to the territory and especially to wine tradition.
The company combines perfectly respect for tradition with technological innovation, giving birth to wines that are faithful to the typicality of the territory. It works on an area of 22 hectares of land under vines with an annual production of about 70,000 bottles.
Established in 1959 by approximately fi fty members, the winery kept growing till it became the most important of the entire province. The winery's total capacity, rated around 140.000 hl, enables a yearly processing of 12.000.000 kg of grapes harvested from vineyards covering over 1.100 hectares property of 1240 members.
Santa Maria del Morige was founded in 1999, the result of the winemaking tradition of the Conserva family.
Low yields per hectare, an accurate selection of old vines, allow to obtain wines of high quality, easy to understand, but complex in their expression, of a sensual and cheerful classicism, very representative of a somewhat ideal image of Negroamaro, located in its place of maximum election.
Conti Zecca's commitment to enhance the genius loci has guided the growth of the company during the centuries.
Nowadays Conti Zecca owns four estates which have been added over time to the original company. Each estate expresses something different specifically connected to the Salento terroir.
For all the estates, autochthony is their raison d'être.
The estate was founded in 1970 and has always been a reference point in the wine panorama of Puglia.
Augusto founded Cantine Cantele in 1979, along with his father and his brother Domenico. The company has been bottling wine since the early nineties, when it decided to buy a few hectares of vines and to produce the first Cantele wines.
Tenuta Merico was founded in 2001; the winery, of new construction, presents the best technologies available for vinification, storage and aging of wine. Care for the vines, the accurate selection of grapes and the winemaking conducted according to traditional patterns and followed at every stage by the Merico family, harvest after harvest, carried out in boxes to prevent advance fermentation that could ruin the finished product, guarantee the high quality of the product.
Apollonio is a winery that has been going on for four generations, and deserved the title of Historic Enterprise of Italy.
The vineyards, located in an ideal area, of warm weather, follow the rhythm marked by the lunar cycles. The guidelines of the company are: a rigorous selection of grapes and wines, the use of cutting–edge technologies, the creation of new products that meet the demands of the most demanding consumers.
Cupertinum, the cooperative winery of Copertino, is one of the oldest wineries in Puglia. Currently it produces 7 types of wine. Between the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic Sea, between the Gulf of Taranto and the Otranto Channel, the territory of Copertino lies. In this red land, vines and olive groves alternate with harmony, olive groves with centuries–old trees with big twisted trunks and vines with the characteristic "ad alberello" cultivation, which produces a strong and generous wine.
The year 1935 represents a milestone in the history of the winemaking economy in Salento: 36 wine growers are united in the Cupertinum company, a cooperative winery in Cupertino. The goal is to take over the production of their grapes and the marketing of their wines. Today there are 300 proud vinegrowers who each year bring their harvests. The plots, in which farmers members work masterfully their vineyards, extend into the picturesque landscape around Cupertino and in neighboring municipalities. The total area planted with vines covers about 350 hectares. The grapes, from the best areas of the territory and from vineyards planted mainly with the traditional alberello–technique (bush vines), are treated with wisdom resulting from tradition and innovation, which allows to obtain excellent wines.
Strong of the experience gained over various generations, Cupertinum now works excellent traditional grape varieties: Negroamaro, symbol of the Salento wine, the main one, flanked by black Malvasia, Primitivo and white Malvasia of Lecce, and some international or national varieties now naturalized in these lands.
