Cusumano , the Sicilian winery of the brothers Alberto and Diego Cusumano, has created an online path dedicated to those who want to be accompanied in the experience of tasting and discovering Sicilian quality wines . The selection of 12 wines from 5 different territories is divided into Premium Collection and Private Collection .
“We imagined a virtual place - says Diego Cusumano - that resembles us, that speaks our language. I like to call it 'a new territory', well-kept and elegant, warm and engaging, which offers a quality experience to those who come into contact with us, perhaps for the first time " .
The Premium Collection presents the iconic wines of the individual estates, such as Shamaris by Tenuta Monte Pietroso - "wake of the sea", a wine that offers the nose the flowers and fruits of the earth that ripened the grapes - and Angimbé by Tenuta Ficuzza - raised at 700 meters above sea level, on the estate within a nature reserve of hundreds of essences, in the territory of Piana degli Albanesi. This collection also offers thematic solutions such as the summer selection , which includes Shamaris, Ramusa rosé and Angimbé; the selection of reds with Disueri - the intense and vibrant Nero d'Avola that comes from the white soils of Tenuta San Giacomo in Butera - and Benuara - an expression of the same vine grown in the hills of Monreale in Presti and Pegni, where the sun it shines from sunrise to sunset, which associated with Syrah generates this blend with spicy notes; or, again, a collection of native vines - Shamaris and Disueri.
The Private Collection brings together selections of exclusive vintages in special packages , ideal for building a home cellar, to celebrate important dates or as a gift reserved for equally unique people.
Here the 700 Brut classic method parades , a wine that, as the name implies, is born at 700 meters above sea level: “If the territory of Ficuzza had a face - Alberto Cusumano specifies - I believe that 700 above sea level could fully represent it. The air of Ficuzza inspired us. Thus, one morning in September, 700 was born. A desired, hard-fought and now strongly loved wine ” . And also Moscato dello Zucco , 'liquid gold': a muscat born in the nineteenth century when Henri d'Orléans, Duke of Aumale, produced it in Contrada Zucco between Partinico and Terrasini, famous throughout Europe and then almost disappeared. Cusumano gave it back to life in the Tenuta San Carlo vineyard after recovering some clones of this Moscato Bianco. The selected bunches are dried in three kilogram perforated boxes until they lose 50% of their weight. After drying and a very soft pressing, fermentation in oak barrels follows.
The Private Collection then includes the selection of Magnums and wooden boxes with the Verticals of the great Cusumano wines, from Jalé 2018, which comes from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown at more than 700 meters above sea level in the Tenuta di Ficuzza, at the magnums della "muntagna" : Alta Mora Etna Rosso Doc 2017 , an elegant wine that expresses the power of the volcano. Nerello Mascalese in purity, the indigenous variety grown in espalier and sapling in the Verzella, Feudo di Mezzo, Guardiola and Solicchiata districts in the territory of Castiglione di Sicilia. Fruit of the best Carricante grapes grown in the districts of Pietramarina and Verzella in Castiglione di Sicilia and in Arrigo in Linguaglossa. Alta Mora Etna Bianco 2019 , a white wine obtained from Carricante which, thanks to the freshness of the soils, reaches full maturity, enhancing the aromas and character of this volcanic indigenous grape. Alta Mora Feudo di Mezzo 2015 , a wine of great elegance and wisdom, with enveloping and spicy aromas, savory and with a long future, the result of the diversity of the soils of Contrada Feudo di Mezzo, which grants the centenary vines with deep roots, not to never suffer neither thirst nor damp.
In the Private Collection also the magnum of No à 2016 from Tenuta Presti e Pegni: the name is inspired by Noè, the first wine producer on earth and represents Cusumano's challenge to the great wines of the world. In fact, it comes from the union of Nero d'Avola, a strong expression of our land, with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon that evoke the French Atlantic coast. It is available in the new vintage - 2017 -, in different compositions of wooden boxes, or in the 2015 vintage, in magnum format, S à gana by Tenuta San Giacomo, which expresses the natural power of Sicilian wines, the elegance, the freshness given by the altitude and by the calcareous soil rich in white trubes. The low yields and the rigorous quality selection make it Cusumano's ambassador wine in the world. Finally, the latest addition to Casa Cusumano: Salealto 2018 Tenuta Ficuzza. The name Salealto recalls the characteristics of the wine on the palate. Insolia, Grillo and Zibibbo in equal parts make it a unique wine, mountainous and Mediterranean at the same time. The inspiration comes from the story that revolves around the Real Casina di Caccia di Ficuzza. "How could the wine be drunk by the King?" - says Diego Cusumano. - “We do not know its composition, but we have imagined: indigenous grapes, a single Terroir, maturation on the fine lees until the next harvest. Thus, after a few years of experimentation, Salealto 2018 was born, a " vin du Terroir " of Ficuzza " . A precious and exclusive wine, the first Cusumano white wine produced using our own yeasts, also the result of long research.
All Cusumano wines make use of the SOStain / VIVA “Sustainable Wine” certification . The common denominator of the diversity and uniqueness of Cusumano wines, in fact, is the commitment to sustainable viticulture that arises from the sentiment and ethical obligation to protect resources, limiting their waste. A research that translates into actions compliant with the SOStain protocol , the sustainability program for Sicilian viticulture, sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and recognized by the Ministry of the Environment, Territory and Sea, through the VIVA sustainability project
