Consortium for the Protection of Valpolicella Wines
Born in 1924, it is an association that includes winemakers, winemakers and bottlers from the Valpolicella wine production area, a territory that includes 19 municipalities in the province of Verona. The very high representativeness (80% of the producers who use the denomination) allows the Consortium to carry out initiatives that enhance the entire territory: the wine and its land of origin, its history, traditions and peculiarities that make it unique in the world. The Consortium has important institutional roles: it deals with the promotion, enhancement, information of the wines and the Valpolicella territory, the protection of the brand and viticulture in the production area of Valpolicella wines, the vigilance, safeguarding and defense of the denomination. The production area is very large and can be traced back to three distinct areas: the Classic area (Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella, San Pietro in Cariano, Fumane, Marano and Negrar); the Valpantena area, including the homonymous valley; the DOC Valpolicella area, with Verona, Illasi, Tramigna and Mezzane. The indigenous varieties that give life to the wines of the Valpolicella wine appellations are: Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara. The wines of the appellation are Valpolicella doc, Valpolicella Ripasso doc, Amarone della Valpolicella and Recioto della Valpolicella both docg.
