An auction of local red wines and some national oenological pearls to help the Montebelluna hospital: the proceeds will be doubled by the Consortium, which has a new logo that unites Montello Docg and Montello Colli Asolani Doc.

The two denominations, the first exclusively suited to Bordeaux vines (Cabernet, Merlot, Carmenère) cultivated in the Montello area since the second half of the nineteenth century and the second which also enhances some rare local varieties such as Recantina or Bianchetta, will be represented by a new common brand, which bears the image of the Rocca di Asolo, one of the symbols of the territory, declined in the typical red-brown color of the ferrous soils of this hilly stretch of the province of Treviso, a transition point between the upper Veneto plain and the Belluno Prealps.
“On Montello and on the Asolo hills - explains Ugo Zamperoni , president of the Consortium that protects Montello wines - above all powerful and complex reds are born, which have contributed to building and consolidating the great tradition of Veneto wines obtained from the Bordeaux vines. They are a fairly small production, only 618 thousand total bottles per year, spread over eighteen Treviso municipalities. The reds make up 95% of the total volumes of the two appellations together, the whites are a production niche of 28 thousand bottles. We have created a new logo with the aim of representing the peculiarities of the territory in which the Docg del Montello and the Doc Montello Colli Asolani are developed, two denominations that territorially overlap the Asolo Prosecco, but which have their own specific personality that we could define montanara. We have taken on the moral and cultural commitment first of all to enhance this wine reality through its distinctive traits and which belong to the history of the ancient Bosco dei Dogi, as Montello was known in the Venetian age ”.
The presentation of the new course of the Consorzio dei Vini del Montello provided the opportunity to launch a charity auction scheduled on the specialized Catawiki platform starting from the second week of December. On sale there will be eleven wines from Montello paired with other great Italian red wines, some of which are real rarities, protagonists of national enology in recent decades. The entire proceeds of the initiative, which is aimed at Italian wine lovers, will be donated to Ulss 2 - San Valentino Hospital in Montebelluna , one of the centers designated to host coronavirus patients. For its part, the Consorzio Vini del Montello, which had already made a donation to the same center during the first wave of the pandemic, has pledged to double the amount raised through the auction. "I want to extend a special thanks - concludes Zamperoni - to the companies of some of the most prestigious Italian wine areas that have enthusiastically welcomed the invitation to support the producers of the Montello wines in this small but significant gesture of solidarity with our territory".
