In the enchanting Val d'Orcia, Talosa , the jewel of the Jacorossi family, has been the custodian of an important family history and a centuries-old winemaking tradition known as Vin Santo di Montepulciano DOC since 1972. A masterpiece of patience and craftsmanship, its roots are deeply rooted in Tuscany, among the rolling hills of the Valdichiana near the picturesque town of Montepulciano, dating back to Etruscan times. The historic Talosa winery is located just steps from the famous Piazza Grande, protected by the walls of two of the city's oldest and most significant buildings, Palazzo Tarugi and Palazzo Sinatti. It boasts ancient underground galleries where the wine rests and carefully ages, acquiring character and nobility. It was Angelo Jacorossi , a Roman entrepreneur driven by the desire to find a quiet refuge for himself, far from the chaos of the city, who shaped the story of this project. In his search, he was captivated by the beauty of Montepulciano, a corner of the earth that held a special appeal for him, and especially by the charm of a small winery. From that moment, a profound understanding was born, a bond destined to grow and consolidate over time, transforming into a genuine and lasting connection. Talosa extends across 33 hectares of vineyards, in one of the most evocative and scenic areas of the Montepulciano Cru : Pietrose . The meticulous care in cultivating and selecting individual parcels for harvest has always been synonymous with a meticulous and distinctive approach aimed at achieving the highest quality grapes, a crucial element that allows Talosa to produce wines of the highest quality.
Talosa Vin Santo di Montepulciano is the ultimate expression of the synthesis between man and nature. It embodies the magic of long waiting, the perfection captured in a blend of white grapes— Trebbiano, Malvasia, and Grechetto —grown in the medium-textured soils of Pliocene origin in the Pietrose area, 350–400 meters above sea level, with an ideal southwest exposure. The grapes are selected manually in the first half of October, ensuring only the best for the production of this golden nectar. After harvesting, the bunches are left to dry for 3–4 months in crates, with the berries being checked manually weekly. Pressing takes place with a vertical press, preserving the quality of the must, which then ages for over 15 years with the “madre”—a kind of dense, dark sediment—in small 70–90-liter oak barrels. Finally, the Vin Santo is bottled and released in 0.375-liter bottles, ready to enchant with its intense flavor and its history of care, tradition, and patience. This dedication has earned Vin Santo Talosa prestigious international awards: 97 points from John Fodera and 96 points from Luca Maroni for Vin Santo 1996; 94 points from Wine Advocate Robert Parker, and 2 glasses from Gambero Rosso, awarded at the Merano Wine Festival, for Vin Santo 1995.
Talosa Vin Santo di Montepulciano is more than a wine: it's a tale of passion, culture, and the art of winemaking. It's an extraordinary sip for contemplation, embodying the elegance and tradition of Tuscan winemaking. It features a deep amber color with luminous golden highlights that hint at its aromatic complexity. On the nose, it releases enveloping notes of walnut, dried apricot, and raisins, complemented by nuances of toffee and fruit compote. With age, delicate hints of nutmeg, cinnamon, and saffron emerge in the glass, further enriching the bouquet. The palate is soft, velvety, and enveloping, with a sweetness balanced by a lively acidity that lends freshness and depth. The finish is long and persistent, with hints of dried fruit and honey. Perfect paired with almond biscuits, dry pastries, mature or blue cheeses, or enjoyed on its own, allowing itself to be carried away by its strength and complexity.
