Castello di Meleto (Gaiole in Chianti, SI) has obtained the seal of “Historical Brand of National Interest” and officially entered the Special Register of Historic Brands established by the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy (MIMIT) , reserved for companies that have represented a heritage of excellence, continuity and Italian manufacturing identity for at least 50 years.
A particularly significant achievement on the regional and national scene: as of January 2026, approximately 970 historic brands were registered throughout Italy, spanning all sectors of Made in Italy. Castello di Meleto is among the few dozen wineries listed in the Register of Historic Brands.
Tuscany has 38 awards, confirming its position as one of the regions most representative of Italy's productive heritage. Within this highly selective framework, only 13 Tuscan food and wine companies have achieved the Marchio Storico (Historical Mark) designation: Castello di Meleto thus joins a very select group of regional excellences.
" This recognition is not just a symbolic achievement, but rather a testament to a model that, while preserving the estate's history and heritage, places a strong emphasis on innovation and the communication of its excellent products," says Francesco Montalbano, General Manager of Castello di Meleto. " Being included in the Special Register of Historic Brands means protecting and enhancing a centuries-long journey built on respect for the land, entrepreneurial vision, and the ability to innovate without losing our identity. Castello di Meleto is deeply rooted in the Chianti Classico region, and this recognition strengthens our commitment to the future ."
Castello di Meleto is now a benchmark in the Chianti Classico region: it is one of the estates with the largest organic vineyard area in the denomination , with an iconic and instantly recognizable location in the heart of the Sienese hills. Alongside the production of prestigious wines , an authentic expression of the territory, Meleto stands out as an integrated project for rural and cultural development , thanks to a zero-mile osteria, a high-profile hospitality system, and a highly attractive wine tourism offering.
A symbolic place of the Chianti Classico region, Castello di Meleto is crossed by the route of L'Eroica , the famous international cycling event that celebrates the dirt roads and the most authentic soul of Tuscany, strengthening the bond between Meleto, the territory and a narrative made of values, memory and identity.
With its entry into the Register of Historic Brands of National Interest, Castello di Meleto consolidates its role as an ambassador for Made in Italy winemaking, where tradition, production quality, landscape, and cultural experience coexist in a coherent and contemporary project.
