The Opera Dotazione del Tempio Canoviano Foundation will hold a meeting on Sunday, May 24, at 10:30 a.m. to present its plans to reopen the monument that symbolizes the genius of Antonio Canova, a masterpiece inspired by the Roman Pantheon that the great master designed as a tribute to his hometown, and which today houses his remains.
In recent months, the Temple has been affected by some plaster detachments from the uppermost part of the dome, a situation that required specialized technical investigations and safety measures to secure the building, which have already been completed. These measures have allowed the Temple to reopen to worshippers and visitors, while diagnostic analyses and studies necessary to define the future comprehensive restoration program continue.
The support of the Asolo Montello Wine Consortium also fits into this context, having chosen to finance some of the activities already underway and to support the protection, analysis, and future interventions with a biennial contribution . In particular, thanks to the contribution, a containment net has been set up, which will allow visitors to safely admire this splendid work. " The Canova Temple is one of the most important testimonies to the work of Antonio Canova," states the President of the Foundation, Vania Cunial . " Reopening it means giving thousands of visitors the opportunity to admire its beauty and understand the genius of this artist. It is a long-awaited moment, which returns to the faithful and to the entire community of Possagno the place that is a symbol of their history and identity."
"The Canova Temple is a place deeply rooted in the identity of our region and is a symbol of beauty, a value we wish to communicate as part of our identity ," states Michele Noal, president of the Asolo Montello Wine Consortium . " As a Consortium, we feel a duty to support the cultural and artistic symbols that represent the history, beauty, and value of our community. Asolo Montello is a region that thrives on the balance between landscape, culture, traditions, and quality of life. We hope that our choice will inspire other economic entities, both public and private, to contribute."
"We chose to participate in this process ," Noal continues, " with a spirit of responsibility and collaboration, in the belief that the preservation of iconic places must involve institutions, businesses, and citizens. It's a project that concerns everyone."
Alongside the Consortium's support, a crowdfunding campaign open to citizens, businesses, associations, and supporters of Italian cultural heritage will be launched in the coming months, with the aim of transforming the Temple's restoration into a participatory and collective project.
The initiative aims to directly engage the community, allowing anyone to contribute, even with a small donation, to the preservation of one of the most iconic places in the Veneto region.
A concrete gesture to continue preserving a work that for over two centuries has represented a spiritual, artistic, and landscape reference point for the entire Asolo Montello area.
