Not a classroom, but a forest. On Wednesday, May 27 , the Giorgio Cecchetto winery invited three classes from the School Paolo Veronese Middle School from Maser (Treviso) to spend a morning in the Bosco delle Coste , part of the UNESCO MAB Reserve in the Asolo hills, to discover first-hand how agriculture, biodiversity and land management can coexist and strengthen each other. The initiative, now in its fifth edition , was created to introduce new generations to environmental issues through concrete activities linked to protection of the ecosystem and the development of integrated agriculture .
with the Treviso Provincial Committee of the Veneto Regional Beekeepers Association . Led by Giuseppe Morosin , an expert from the L'Alveare del Grappa educational farm, the children explored the organization of the hive, discovering the different types of bees and the essential role each plays in the ecosystem's balance.
The second activity, led by Federico Corrò and Mattia Carraro of Etifor – a spin-off of the University of Padua specializing in environmental consulting and climate strategies – introduced students to the world of botany , teaching them to recognize and classify forest plants, distinguish between families, genera, and species, and read the plant landscape for signs of biodiversity, which is particularly rich in the Bosco delle Coste, an FSC®-C181022 certified forest that extends over three hectares. After collecting leaves, each student created a card to include in the class herbarium. The activity concluded with a symbolic award ceremony and refreshments featuring local products prepared by the Nobili Ricercatori del Gusto of Maser .
"Every year, when we see the kids moving among the trees, asking questions, observing the leaves, and approaching a hive for the first time, we realize we're communicating an important message," says Sara Cecchetto , the company's sustainability manager. "We've always firmly believed that caring for the land also means passing on its value to those who come after us, and there's no better way to do that than bringing the kids here, among the trees, to experience firsthand what it truly means to respect the earth."
