Walking through the vineyards of the Abbey, tasting the wines paired with many of the South Tyrolean specialties sitting inside the Stiftskeller, immersing yourself in the rooms of the renovated monastery museum founded in 1142: these are just some of the activities that the Novacella Abbey is once again ready to offer its many and loyal visitors.
" The sense of hospitality and welcome towards its guests has always been one of the hallmarks of the Abbey of Novacella " explains Werner Waldboth, sales director of the Abbey's cellar . " The reopening of its doors, in total safety, to tourists who want to visit the vineyards and the cellar, as well as the architectural beauties and the works inside the Abbey, gives us great joy and we hope it is a good omen for the future ".
Starting from May 20, the Novacella Abbey will offer the opportunity to visit the winery and the vineyards , together with a tasting: tastings are possible all year round from Monday to Friday at 4.00 pm and on Saturday at 2.30 pm, by reservation. Even the wine shop, where all the company's wines are on sale together with other products of its own production, is fully operational. In the welcoming and typical Stiftskeller, on the other hand, it is possible to taste the wines of the Abbey in combination with Tyrolean specialties based on speck, cheese, smoked sausages and Schüttelbrot.
" There are also many artistic innovations ready to be admired by tourists, which confirm the cultural and religious role that the Abbey of Novacella has always represented " continues Werner Waldboth. " Inside the museum, recently renovated under Eduard Fischnaller's provost, two new rooms have been set up that tell the story of the monastery's economic and educational activities ". In the room dedicated to educational activities there are historical photos and objects that tell the missionary work, the college and the convention center, which are still part of the Abbey. The room on economic activities, on the other hand, illustrates, from its foundation to today, the production of wine, the work carried out in the vineyard and those of the artisans, since in the past the monastery also had a carpentry, a furnace and a forge inside.
These are not the only innovations that will allow tourists to immerse themselves in the sacred places of the Abbey of Novacella. In the so-called "Chinese cabinet", which served as an antechamber to the library room, splendid paintings dating from 1775-1780 were brought to light during the spring of this year, showing scenes of Chinese daily life, typical in Rococo Europe. .
A new work, created and conceived by the Vorarlberg artist Paul Renner and created in collaboration with Christian Thanhäuser and Lorenzo Brivio, entitled "Giardino di Sant'Agostino", has been placed in the new entrance of the museum and acts as a support for the monumental herbarium. the Hortus Sancti Augustini, a "Wunderkammer" - chamber of wonders -, present in the Abbey. Finally, again in the spring of this year, the artist Paul Renner created the cladding of the vaulted room walls, using a painting technique of great impact.
" There are many novelties ready to welcome visitors to the Abbey of Novacella - concludes Werner Waldboth -. We can't wait to toast this restart together with all of them ".
