Franciacorta has been recognized as one of the six wine regions to be explored in 2014 by Forbes

The world of wine continues to improve its offer and “Forbes”, widespread American magazine, has chosen places that are worth a visit, for both balanced and elegant wines that they produce and for how they treat landscape and hospitality. There are some little–known places, others unknown, and still others that are emerging now as outstanding regions. “Their good repute is spreading, and then, visit them now before they become famous”, Forbes recommends.

As you can see there is very little room for foreign wine regions, but the Italy of wine could not be missing among the selected ones.

Here are the “SIX EXCITING WINE REGIONS TO EXPLORE IN 2014” listed by Forbes

1. Cru Beaujolais

2. Franciacorta, Italy

3 . Western Sonoma Coast, California

4. Virginia

5. Anderson Valley, California

6. Horse Heaven Hills, Washington

Why Forbes chooses Franciacorta?

“Forbes” has chosen Franciacorta because “this region of north–east offers an Italian version of the beauty and elegance of Champagne, with its classic method wines, made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, a flattering imitation of the style of Champagne, usually at a better price”. Surely this description is very limiting compared to the wonder of the territory and to the Franciacorta wines.

The Territory: what does Franciacorta say about itself?

“Franciacorta is located in the heart of Lombardy, near Milan, overlooking the shores of Lake Iseo in an area that includes 19 municipalities of the Province of Brescia. (...) The valuable cultural, historical and natural history of this territory is surrounded by beautiful frames of green, along the gentle slopes of the ancient hills of glacial origin, which are the Franciacorta territory to discover, enjoy and breathe”.

There are many itineraries that can be made “to discover more closely the great potential of this area, which has always been famous for winegrowing, located between Lake Iseo and the art city of Brescia.

Wine: what does Franciacorta say about itself?

“Franciacorta was the first Italian wine to be produced exclusively by the method of second fermentation in the bottle (classic method), to be awarded in 1995 with the Controlled Designation of Origin Guaranteed. Today, on the label you read only the name Franciacorta, the only term that defines the territory, the method of production and the wine. Throughout Europe, only 10 designations have that privilege, and out of these, only three are made with second fermentation in the bottle: Cava, Champagne and Franciacorta”.

The historic cellars are true cathedrals of modern winemaking technology .
