A very ancient history that of Barbera d'Asti DOCG which is projected into the future thanks to important and growing productive and economic values and to the good practices implemented by the Barbera d'Asti e Vini del Monferrato Consortium : this in summary is what emerges from a new research by the Qualivita Foundation.
First among the Barbera del Piemonte for certified volumes, the Barbera d'Asti DOCG in 2019 saw the value of its certified bulk production at € 21 million , compared to 164 thousand hl of denomination product, the result of the work of over 3,000 operators (about 30% of those from Piedmont), located in 167 municipalities between the provinces of Asti and Alessandria. Important and growing results: the value of the certified bulk production of Barbera d'Asti DOCG has grown by 28% over the last 5 years , almost ten points more than the value of all the Piedmont designation of origin production.
This growth in value has two main reasons: a good price progression and a good stability of both domestic and foreign markets. On the price in particular, there is a variation of 44% for Barbera d'Asti DOCG , considering the average of the 2010-2014 and 2015-2019 average prices, against an increase in the prices of Italian DOC-DOCG wines of 27 %.
