A "garden of Eden" of trees and flowers for these precious insects and a naturalistic and educational park open to the public.

In conjunction with World Bee Day, Castello di Meleto inaugurates the Parco delle Api on Thursday 20 May, an oasis of one and a half hectares of trees and flowers destined to become a real paradise for bees but also an educational place where to tell adults and children the fascinating world of this insect on which 70% of human food resources depend.

« We strongly believe in this project, which completes our vision of environmental sustainability in support of biodiversity. - Says Michele Contartese , general manager of Castello di Meleto - Alongside the commitment to safeguard the territory, today we want to actively promote the knowledge of the world of bees, insects essential for our survival , with an educational park dedicated to them but open to all ".

About 30 species of flowering trees, shrubs and grasses, will guarantee a show of colors and shapes from spring to late autumn: Judas trees, lime trees, rosemary, helichrysum, borage, sainfoin and gorse are just some of the botanical species that will bloom.

The trees will be home to the bee families: the hives will in fact be placed under the foliage, so that the insects can live in an environment that is as natural as possible.

The opening of the park crowns the Nel Nome dell'Ape initiative, born last year, which allows you to personally contribute to a repopulation project of these extraordinary insects in Gaiole in Chianti. Following the initiative, which in fact allows participants to adopt a family of bees and receive the honey produced in exchange , 25 new bee families arrived in spring supported by as many consumers, sensitive to the theme of the environment, reaching the number of 40 hives , corresponding to over 3 million bees hosted in a year.

The 11th edition of the National Day of Historic Houses (Sunday 23 May) is also part of the same weekend, an opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary uniqueness of Castello di Meleto , the only Chianti Classico winery to own a perfectly preserved 13th century castle, today splendid accommodation.
