Towards a single standard of vitivinicultural sustainability: the state of the art and the objectives of the Lugana Doc protection consortium.

In this direction, the Lugana Doc Protection Consortium has begun a process aimed at accompanying companies towards greater investment in sustainability , in all its forms, starting from environmental sustainability.

In fact, since the beginning of the year, the Consortium has been managing, as lead body, the SQNPI certification project and the related compliance control, supporting member companies and assisting the certifying body in the verification phase.

“This measure was promoted with a view to directing the denomination, in the near future, towards a single standard of vitivinicultural sustainability . I am satisfied that the territory has responded positively, making a concrete commitment to achieving a common objective aimed at protecting and enhancing our denomination in a concrete and organized way" explains Fabio Zenato, president of the Lugana Doc protection consortium.

Today it is possible to state that approximately 50% of the hectares have already achieved, or are in the process of obtaining, the SQNPI (National Integrated Production Quality System), Equalitas or organic certification .

“We will continue on the SQNPI and Equalitas certification front in order to be able to involve the majority of the denomination in this direction, because the value of the territory is given by a common vision that affects the entire supply chain, from production to transformation, and responds to the expectations of the consumers without compromising the resources that will be available to future generations" adds Zenato.

“Working on the sustainability front also translates into a better positioning on the market, given the ever-increasing sensitivity of Italian and international consumers towards this issue. The consumer, in fact, is increasingly attentive to environmental causes, in search of a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. In this direction, the certifications allow us to increasingly validate the product from a qualitative and positioning point of view" concludes Zenato
