Fraud in organic rice: FederBio welcomes seizure to protect honest farmers and citizens.

The Federation clarifies that there are no repercussions for citizens, as the 14 farms involved were stopped before the 2023 harvest and almost all subsequently withdrew from the organic certification system. The rice attributable to these farms has therefore been off the market for some time, while the traceability of previous productions had already been reconstructed by investigators and certification bodies.

Always committed to protecting true organic products, FederBio expresses appreciation for the work of the Pavia Public Prosecutor's Office, which coordinated the operation conducted by the Pavia Financial Police and ICQRF inspectors, thus dismantling a fraudulent system in the marketing of rice falsely declared organic.

“We had found evident anomalies in relation to the huge volumes of rice marketed explains Paolo Carnemolla , Coordinator of the Crisis Unit of FederBio " It was enough to cross-reference public databases to understand that, compared to a normal yield of 4-5 tons per hectare, in this case the numbers doubled. This figure is incompatible with any real organic production. From there, the report was sent that led to the massive seizure. We have always been on the front lines against illegal agri-food practices, which harm honest farmers and undermine public trust in organic products. Fighting fraud means protecting farmers and supply chain companies that work seriously in the sector, consumers, and the environment."
