A project supported by the GSE (Italian Energy Services Agency) brings solar energy to the rooftops of the historic Cirò Marina winery, toward ever greater energy independence.

For Librandi, sustainability is a journey of concrete choices and ongoing investment: after consolidating its commitment in recent years through Equalitas certification, the annual publication of its Sustainability Report, and numerous projects dedicated to protecting biodiversity and improving production efficiency, the historic Calabrian winery is now taking a new step by expanding its photovoltaic system.

The new plant, built on the roofs of the winery's production buildings in Contrada San Gennaro, Cirò Marina, represents a strategic investment that will allow the company to significantly increase its renewable energy production. Once fully operational, it will generate approximately 550,000 kWh per year, energy that will be entirely used for the winery's own consumption, reducing its dependence on the national grid during peak production periods.

"In recent years, the journey undertaken with Equalitas has helped us to more consciously measure our impact and define increasingly concrete goals," comments Raffaele Librandi, co-owner of the company with his brother Paolo and cousins Teresa and Francesco. "The expansion of the photovoltaic system represents a further step in this strategy. It's not an isolated initiative, but part of a long-term vision aimed at progressively reducing emissions and increasing our energy independence, while continuing to produce wine with full respect for the land that hosts us."

The project, designed by engineer Raffaele Mesoraca of ISS Engineering in Crotone and implemented by the construction company V&M Immobiliare with the support of the Energy Services Manager as part of the Agrisolar Park program funded by the National Plan for Regional Development (PNRR), involves the installation of 805 modules distributed across eight generators, for a total capacity of 442.75 kW and a roof area of over 2,100 square meters. It will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, making a tangible contribution to the company's sustainability goals. "The system allows us to cover a large portion of the winery's energy needs with our own production," says Raffaele Librandi. "It's an investment that reduces operating costs and, at the same time, aligns us with the sustainability goals we have set ourselves." The affected facilities are the company's existing facilities, used for the vinification and aging of Librandi wines.

The investment confirms an approach Librandi has been pursuing for years, one that encompasses the entire company supply chain: from carbon and water footprint monitoring to biodiversity projects, circular economy practices, and responsible management of natural resources. A path that looks to the future of Calabrian viticulture through innovation, research, and responsibility.
