The initiative was organized as part of the European project " Cities2030 - Co-creating resilient and sustainable food systems towards FOOD2030" funded by the Horizon2020 program (Grant Agreement nr. 101000640), of which the Municipality of Vicenza is a partner together with the International Library "The Vineyard" .

Patrizio Roversi , television presenter, author and writer, who with irony and depth recounted the different food cultures that he got to know on his travels in Italy and around the world, opened the dances. Then Andrea Calori and Chiara Pirovano from the EStà research, training and consultancy center explained the thinking behind and the practical implications of the city's food policies. Professor Egidio Dansero of the University of Turin illustrated studies and results of the Italian Local Food Policies Network, of which he is the coordinator, describing the importance of creating narratives to actively involve the population in the construction of widespread and concrete sustainability. The cycle of interventions concluded with the contribution of Professor Danilo Gasparini , food historian, university professor and president of the Scientific Council of "La Vigna", on the role of food in the social and urban evolution of cities throughout history.
Workshops were held on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning around four thematic areas identified as thematic priorities of the Municipality of Vicenza for the Cities2030 project: lifelong food education ; ethics, legality and transparency ; role and perspective of women in food sustainability; construction of sustainable supply chains at an environmental, economic and social level. The participants, divided into discussion and planning groups, analyzed the reality of the Vicenza area and formulated concrete proposals in a process facilitated by EStà professionals , who guided those present through the innovative Open Space Technology methodology. The finalist initiatives were: the establishment of a single provincial hub for the recovery of surpluses, the creation of an agricultural park for Vicenza, the creation of a permanent City Lab dedicated to the urban and peri-urban food system and, lastly, the definition of a project of food education that combines knowing how to do and knowing how to be.
The ideas and material collected will be elaborated by the team responsible for the Municipality of Vicenza and the International Library "La Vigna". In this way, the Cities2030 project will promote its creation as well as the sharing of experience with the follower cities that will be involved in the coming months, giving priority to the same municipalities in the province of Vicenza.
The event saw the participation of representatives of local institutions, AULSS and health services, trade and professional associations, companies sensitive to the subjects of Cities2030 but also the press, food bloggers, third sector actors, consortia, schools, universities, foundations and research and cultural centres.
