Bottled and stocks hold, but we need normality.

But some signs of light come from Monferrato del vino, demonstrating a sector that, despite everything, reacts to limitations.

The data collected by the Barbera d'Asti e Vini del Monferrato Consortium , as of October 31, 2020 , record a considerable decrease in stocks ( - 34,684 hectoliters compared to October 31, 2019 ), with Barbera d'Asti leading at - 16,768 hectoliters . Very encouraging parameters that prevent excess supply and therefore speculation. Basically, wine is consumed despite the substantial blockage of the Horeca channels, which certainly represents the main marketing space.

The data on bottling are also good. Here the numbers for 2020 (31 October) are even the highest in the last three years , with 1% on the same date as in 2019 . The overall numbers of Piemonte Doc in general stand out (9.3%, equal to an increase of 2,643,001 bottles) and of Piemonte Barbera in particular (13.2%, equal to an increase of 2,117,920 bottles). In this regard, the transition to the bag-in-box versions should be underlined, a practical and domestic solution that continues to attract a lot of interest in times of lockdown. Docg like Ruchè and Nizza remain positive, while Albugnano reaches a percentage increase of over 10%.

Small and medium-sized companies, as well as most of the wineries, are now equipped to deliver the product at home, an operation that has two substantial implications: the first is to allow the consumer not to leave the house, without having to give up to the pleasure of wine; the second is to consolidate loyalty that allows entrepreneurs to face the many difficulties of recent months linked to the market and the diffusion of their labels.

« These numbers comfort us - comments Filippo Mobrici , President of the Barbera d'Asti and Vini del Monferrato Consortium - These are data that demonstrate the good performance of our companies and our denominations. It is a signal that comes at a time of global criticality and which, precisely for this reason, gives us great hopes for the future, when the nightmare of the health crisis is over and we can resume our normal activities. Starting with those related to catering, which remains the main channel for the promotion and enhancement of our wines ».
