Former Minister of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies and Deputy Director General of the FAO since 2021, Martina is a figure with proven international experience and a strategic vision aligned with the global challenges of food security, sustainability, and the ecological transition of agricultural systems. This would strengthen Italy's influence and credibility in one of the key bodies for global agricultural and food policies.
"The agri-food sector is called upon to address emergencies and profound transformations that require solid leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to engage in international dialogue ," emphasized Maria Grazia Mammuccini , President of FederBio . " Maurizio Martina's candidacy embodies these elements and sends an important signal to Italy. He is a figure of great depth, expertise, and vision, capable of addressing the complex challenges of the global food system in an integrated manner, starting with the paradox between waste and the fight against hunger and malnutrition, which are still dramatically widespread throughout the world today.
Martina has demonstrated a particular focus on agroecology, the promotion of organic products, and local food production and consumption systems. We are convinced that her vision can contribute to strengthening FAO's commitment to more equitable, resilient, and sustainable agri-food systems."
