From Josetta Saffirio to Sara Vezza, five generations of winemakers in the Langa
Sara Vezza, born in 1980, mother of Clara, Cecilia, Giovanni and Cesare, is the fifth generation of farmers who cultivate vineyards in Monforte d'Alba, in the Langa. At 17 she had a dream: to be a winemaker. He made it two years later, at the age of 19, relaunching the family business. Today he treats a property of 11.5 hectares planted with native varieties, mainly Nebbiolo, Barbera and the rare Rossese Bianco. It produces about 70,000 bottles a year. He made new investments: 16 hectares in Murazzano where Sara is planting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to produce Alta Langa, the Piedmontese bubbles. Josetta Saffirio's is an ancient story, which begins at the end of the nineteenth century with the first Saffirio, Giovanni Battista, who moves to live in the Langa. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Josetta's father, Ernesto, began to cultivate his vineyards. In 1975, very young, Josetta decides to take care of her father's vineyards. Graduated in agriculture and flanked by her husband Roberto, an oenologist, she began to cultivate the vines planted by her grandparents immediately after the Second World War. After a few years, Josetta and Roberto see their efforts rewarded and manage to produce a Nebbiolo of recognized quality. In 1985 the first Barolo with the current label was presented, the result of a passion and commitment that never failed. After a period of pause in the 90s, Sara, daughter of Josetta and Roberto, decides to devote herself to the family vineyards and to write a new page in the history of Josetta Saffirio. The latest born is the new Sara Vezza brand that identifies the production of the company's cru wines: from Barolo Ravera to Barbera d'Alba Villar'o, to Alta Langa.
