The extreme heat, which is hitting central and northern Italy in particular, is forcing all wine and Prosecco producers to take action.

According to Sandro Bottega, owner of Bottega spa, the Veneto winery in Bibano, "this year too, the significant increase in temperatures is causing damage to wine production, adding to the costs that must be taken into account following the application of tariffs for exports to the USA. The technological measures and additional systems for protecting the bunches will impact the budget, but they are essential elements to guarantee the highest quality of the products." In a video https://youtu.be/y6gkUJFFY_0 aimed at consumers and stakeholders, Sandro Bottega explains: "This is a strange vintage, different from any other in the last 10 years; during which periods of drought followed periods of high humidity and bad weather. We tried to cope with the extreme heat by burying the emergency irrigation pipes so that the water droplets entered directly into the soil and did not evaporate. We made sure that the grass itself absorbed the water and we also tried to protect the grape bunches, which are absolutely healthy with more abundant foliage. We also tried to collect rainwater with a collection system that not only allowed us to channel the water but above all to recover it and use it in dry periods. With these premises, we will have early grapes such as Pinot and Chardonnay that will be harvested 10 days early to avoid the onset of botrytis, probably as early as next Monday, while for the Glera we are not yet able to make forecasts, given the instability of the weather".
