FederBio joins in mourning the passing of Carlo Petrini, founder of Slow Food, Terra Madre, and the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo, paying tribute to his tireless commitment to promoting good, clean, and fair food.

FederBio remembers his passion and dedication in waging social and environmental battles, anticipating key issues today such as land conservation, the protection of environmental ecosystems, and the construction of a more just and sustainable agricultural model.

With his vision, Carlo Petrini transformed food from a simple consumer product to a cultural, social, and political factor, valorizing local communities, farmers, quality, seasonality, and the profound connection between food, the environment, and health. He helped make fundamental concepts such as sustainability, biodiversity, food sovereignty, fairness for producers, and taste education a common heritage.

"The passing of Carlo Petrini deprives us of a farsighted figure, one of the most lucid, courageous, and authoritative voices of our time," emphasized Maria Grazia Mammuccini, President of FederBio . "His thinking and determination brought about a global revolution in the perception of food and agriculture, demonstrating how every food choice is also an ethical, environmental, and social choice. He was able to combine gastronomic culture, civic engagement, and care for the land, placing farmers at the center and building bridges between producers, citizens, young people, institutions, and communities around the world. Organic farming owes him a great deal: his commitment to biodiversity and local production, combined with his ability to portray agriculture as care, responsibility, and a future, will remain a valuable resource for those who work every day to build more equitable, sustainable, and life-affirming food systems . To his family, to the entire Slow Food community, and to President Barbara Nappini, we express our deepest sympathy and our desire to continue our shared commitment to a future of good, clean, and fair food."
